Andy Murray is trying his best to maintain a low profile this week amid the hysteria of the Wimbledon run-up.
After winning the Queen's club title, the Scot realises that he can't let the nationwide hype affect his final week of preparation.
The 22-year-old has already learned enough not to be taken in by his own success. Over the next four or five days he'll train hard and then taper down at the weekend. "I'm not planning on getting caught up in the whole hype and the pressure and whatnot, because I don't think that that helps if you do. I'm going to try and just concentrate on playing and winning matches".
The last Briton to win at the All England club was Fred Perry in 1936.
"I played well all week and when I had chances I managed to take them", said the winner, who claimed his fourth title of the season, one short of the five of ATP leader Rafael Nadal. "But I was nervous before the match".
"I guess the only thing now is to try and win a Grand Slam hopefully in a few weeks".

Definitely doesn't help him and don't buy it given that he exited early at AO when there was already a big hype surrounding him. Possible future champion though.

Uh, I didn't really watch the first week. Still I wasn't far from off than. Anyway a single set still pretty scary.

yeah, i think the pressure will definitely get to him. he hinted at it yesterday when he said "i was fine until everyone started going on about how long it had been since a british player won, then i got nervous". it's gonna be so much worse at wimbledon
and cable is right. there was a huge buzz surrounding him at ao. even i thought he was gonna win it, then he went out 4th round

Pft, I'm sure he is feeling it. The worst part is the effect will be negative no matter how you look at it. If he gains to much confindence, Rafa or Roger will make some pretty shots that tears him too pieces too violently. I know Roger is on the decline and Rafa may be hurt(I don't really think so) but grass is a place where they cannot really be touched. I mean neither dropped a set if I recall correctly last year...till the final.
If he is letting it roll over him and not getting anything from it he may not try as hard after seeing the shots they come up with on principle of expecting to lose. This kid will suffer like Henman, but I feel, might win in the future. Really not this year...really, doubting it.
