Sweden's former Australian Open champion Thomas Johansson will leave the game after finding recovery from a foot injury more than he can manage at age 34.
Johansson, the last from his proud tennis nation to win a Grand Slam title when he lifted the 2002 Australian Open, is set to retire from the game.
Johansson told Stockholm media that his playing days are now done. "The foot feels better but in order to make a serious comeback I would have to train harder than I ever have. I'm not prepared to do that".
Johansson won nine ATP titles and achieved a career-high ranking of seventh in the world. The announcement came just days after Robin Söderling re-ignited Swedish tennis with his French Open final against Roger Federer.
Johansson is now a father of two after his wife recently gave birth and has said he had wanted to stay in the game long enough for his young children to see him play.

Have to admit I didnt follow his career at all but hats off to a 34 yr old guy who lived the pro tennis dream and earned over $7 million while doing it. Good life if you can do it.
