Hewitt quietly sets up house in the Bahamas Lleyton Hewitt, wife and two kids now call a $3 million waterfront villa in the Bahamas home after quietly purchasing in December and moving in last February.

Australian media report that the tax-free base will allow the Aussie a base for which to jet in for American tournaments.

It follows the lead a decade ago of Patrick Rafter, who based himself in Bermuda so as not to have to make many long trips back to Australia.

The four-bedroom, four-bath property has its own jetty and is situated in a gated community with golf course. Hewitt, currently playing at Queen's club in the Wimbledon build-up, has reportedly been spotted several times around the grounds in a golf cart.

Golf memberships is said to cost $25,000 per year and there are tennis courts convenient to the Hewitt home.

Hewitt won't be short of celebrity neighbors either in his Caribbean hideaway, with Colombian popstar Shakira owning a private island in the Bahamas, and a home near Hewitt's. Actors Nicolas Cage, Sean Connery and Johnny Depp are also based in the area.

He's doing way better than former Davis Cup team mate Mark Phillippoussis. He better not blow it.

I think wealth is one of the distractions for a tennis player. Most ATP players are millionaires. It's hard enough to stay motivated with all the money they have. Which explains why some just is happy being top 50 or 20.

torres9, what gave you the idea that most ATP players are millionaires. I don't have figures to quote but I know for fact that most aren't. You have more than 100 ATP tour players, just because they are ranked 328 in the world and doesn't get mentioned in the news, doesn't mean they aren't. Even then, I suspect quite a big proportion of the top 100 aren't exactly millionaires.

With all the travelling and accommodation costs that they have to pay to compete in tournaments, there may not be much left for normal living expenses and savings for retirement age. Most will probably have to look at other sources of income after their 'short' tennis careers.
