Feliciano Lopez just clipped American Robert Kendrick in two tiebreak sets in opening round action at Queens Club.
As expected, the big serving and questionable returning of Robert Kendrick and Feliciano Lopez resulted in a match determined by tiebreakers.
The first set yielded no breaks of serve for either player. Kendrick had two chances to break the Lopez serve, but he was unable to convert. Lopez, who is the more experienced of the two players played the better tiebreak. Kendrick was only able to win 3 points while Lopez took a one set lead.
The second set was a bit more unpredictable than the first. Both men had a bit of a let-down on serve and each was able to secure a service break, the net result of which was another deciding tiebreaker. Once again, Lopez proved that he is the more seasoned player. Just like the first set, Kendrick pocketed another 3 points.
Lopez will take on Denis Istomin in the second round.
