The approach of fatherhood is a good thing for Roger Federer, with the Swiss convinced he will only be inspired by the summer birth of his first child with wife Mirka Vavrinec.
"I think having a child will affect me in a positive way", said the 14-time Grand Slam champion in the wake of his French Open title breakthrough. "I have a great wife (a former WTA player) to push me towards tennis".
"Any pressure from Mirka is non-existant. She tries to make things as easy as possible for me and she enjoys here role behind the scenes".
"This is the prefect moment for us to have a baby. It and marriage (last April) is something we've spoken of for the last few years. The marriage is comfortable, our lives are moving so fast, we did it at the right time".
Federer said the new sensations of fatherhood are likely to make him even more eager to continue his record-setting tennis career.
"I don't know why I can't keep playing well. I'm in great shape and motivated to play. It's only gonna help me play good tennis".

It has happened before ,thefanchild: to Becker ,Agassi and some other guys unfortuenately I don't know!!!!!!
maybe the previous players became a father at a higher age,so u don't know it's really age or baby affecting the career?(maybe cause I don't know!!) and I think Mirka's really devoted as Roger said...
we've had so much discussion on this! let's wait and see!!

thefanchild....sampras's wife was carrying their first child when he won his last slam (so depending on when you think life begins for the baby?).......agassi had a young son.....when he won a slam......at the age of 35......
there are other players playing who have kids and are still winning titles or getting to the business end of tournys....Hewitt (2 kids)....won two titles this year...tho' people write him off....Lubejkic...playing the tennis of his life....two small children under age of 3.....there are plenty of facts out there....but i don't think (imho) that if a player has the passion to play the game, still wants to win, and has the backing of a very supportive wife...then...no problem....at least for federer anyway.....
i think people are making too big a deal of this and not in a positive way for his career...it can only be the icing on the cake...and make him want to play even better for his soon awaited son.....it can only be positive for him......he said said that he wants to play at the London Olympics....this being the case..his son will be 4 years old and will be able to watch his father play....what could be more uplifting than that? I'll try and get some more facts on the father status for you.....
Cheers.

Ahh, that's interesting news Malteser! Feddy and Mirka and are in good company. Jimmy Conners had 3 gslams as a father, wow.
Federer will make a wonderful father. I say that based on his family values and commitment to Mirka. He could be a player with his looks and money but RF is the absolute best, inside and out.
Yeah by reading the short article, one could get the impression he was a bit too old-fashioned, "Any pressure from Mirka is non-existent. She tries to make things as easy as possible for me and she enjoys her role behind the scenes." Mirka does not appear unhappy with Roger. If that were true, the press would jump all over it.
Press is hard-pressed to criticize Federer and has resorted to picking apart his every pressor and posting sentences out of context. And it will ramp up, closer to Wimbledon.

Fatherhood will be GREAT for "our" FED. It will give him more incentive IMAGINE!! ( as if more is needed...) LOL I believe it will make the FED STRONGER! More FOCUSED, and more DETERMINED than EVER!!! He will want to make his SON STRONG by example. This is my feeling in the matter. LOL In the end he is and will continue to be Roger Federer!!! LOL :) But I still believe he will be BETTER than EVER!!! Possible!?! Inevitable!! LOL Cheers FEDfans! CHEERS! :)

I second that sky!
As long as he has been with Mirka? No cheating , no scandel. Federer is just a great Family man. It's his wording that can be misconstrued to sound chauvinist. Mirka appears no nonsense. She would not put up with that. What Federer is saying is that they are a TEAM.

Roger federer is an exceptional man , hope he becomes more motivated as he say
thats really lovely , :)

Who has won a Slam as a Parent? I was reading somewhere that it either never happens, or almost never happens...does anybody have any actual facts on this?
