  • Federer stages epic comeback to advance

    5/28/09 4:47 PM | Cheryl Murray
Federer stages epic comeback to advance Roger Federer found himself in trouble for much of his second round match, but the Swiss maestro battled his way to a four-set victory.

For the better part of three sets, Jose Acasuso played the match of his life. In the opening set, the Argentine earned himself a whopping five break points in the fourth game of the match, but he was unable to convert. As it turned out, Federer was just delaying the inevitable. At 3-2, Acasuso finally secured the break of serve. Unfortunately for the Argentine, he played a sloppy game on his own serve to gift the break back.

Acasuso took the lead again in the tiebreak with a double mini-break. Federer fought back from 3-6 down to eventually take the set on a spectacular drop-shot.

Perhaps Federer expected Acasuso to cave a bit in the second set, but the Argentine came back just as strong as he had been in the first. In a complete surprise, it was Federer who showed signs of caving to the pressure. By the tail end of the set, the Swiss man was shanking backhands meters long and missing easy forehands. Acasuso secured the set-winning break at 5-5.

Federer played shockingly poor tennis for the first half of the third set. Acasuso earned a 5-1 lead on the strength of ridiculous unforced errors from the world No. 2. Serving for the set at 5-2, the Argentine tightened up and was broken. At that point, the momentum in the match completely turned. Acasuso tweaked his ankle chasing a drop-shot and he was not the same thereafter.

Federer was close to losing this match in straight sets, but as great champions so often do, he found a way to win in four. He awaits the winner of Paul-Henri Mathieu and Pablo Andujar in the third round.

Federer says he thought he had match under control but is happy to get the win.

Federer says he had to fight to escape with a tough victory.

Federer says coming through such a tough match will help him.

have to say it was much more of a choke by Acasuso rather than a comeback by Fed

still nice work getting the job done. Can't say he is doing anything to inspire confidence that he can actually win this tournament, though.

RickyDimon , 5/28/09 5:14 PM

Great report, Cheryl - 'shockingly poor tennis' was a mild understatement in terms of the Fed's play in the beginning of that third set. I can almost feel his racket screaming at him in bewilderment - WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!

He woke up in time to take the match, but these ridiculous lapses in concentration is really going to cost him against the likes of Nole and Rafa.

jyannis , 5/28/09 5:16 PM

perhaps Peter Bodo wasn't that crazy when he picked Mathieu!?

posmatrac , 5/28/09 5:19 PM

Agree Ricky. Fed got lucky by Acasuso choking though the popular guess is that Fed would have won anyway. Still, it was possible for JA to have caused an upset had he been mentally tougher which is why Fed is a better champion saving himself from that situation. But I'd have loved to see a five setter! Too bad.

remi , 5/28/09 5:23 PM

I still think Federer will have no trouble in reaching the semis... but yeah, I think this Federer can't even take a single set from Djoko....

Emiliano55 , 5/28/09 5:29 PM

well...I must admit there were some 'hairy' moments... and I ain't talking about Fed taking off his t-shirt!!!!!!! Phew.....!!!!!!!!..........swoon...swoon....

But...Ricky and Cheryl...you were both right this time...you did say he would come through in 4.....

Having said that....he does need to be congratulated.....whilst it may not have been his best match.....he showed the strength of a champion....the mental strength to come through when he was down 2:5 in the third set and then going on to win...that is why he has been such a G-R-E-A-T...C-H-A-M-P-I-O-N of the game for so long.....

B-R-A-V-O............F-E-D-E-R-E-R..............

He no fool...He knows what he has to do....he never plays his best during the early rounds and so far he has always been able to deliver in the FO...this should not be any different....

but he will step it up now in the third round, fourth round, semi and final.......

Gooooooooo Rooooooggggggeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!
Allezzzz.......Alleezzz zzzz!!!!!!!!

malteser1 , 5/28/09 5:45 PM

He's got some hairy forearms to doesn't he! Am I one of those body hair obsessed Americans? WellllllL , maybe. But I give Fed a break. Not many people can ROCK body hair. Roger Federer is one Rockn' hairy beast, Malteser!
C'monmnnnnnnn A- ROOOOOOOODDDDDDICK
Glued to tube ....

zoey234 , 5/28/09 6:18 PM

This is one of those matches fedex always has in a grand slam ... remember the berdich match in australian open , and after that was the DEl potro massacre , so we just cant make conclusions frm 1 match every player has a bad day at office federer is no exception,
HE will come bak strong ..3 sets win against Mathieu any1 wanna bet!!!!

jibi , 5/28/09 6:40 PM

Jibi, always nice to read another Fedfan. You are right about the AO Fed v Berdych debacle......Actually felt bad for Delpo as Fed took him to Slam School. I like Delpo.

But...anyways....Didn't Bodo curse Fed into dismissal....at the hands of Mattieu?

Hoping you are right Jib!

ALLLLLLLLLLLEZZZZZZZZ Monsueir Magnificent Federerrrrrrrrr

zoey234 , 5/28/09 6:52 PM

jibi...hope you're right...but I can't help being worried specially with Bodo's prediction and a french opponent:(...I'm kind of disappointed...I hope you're right anyway...

niloofar , 5/28/09 6:59 PM

matthiu beat murray in straight sets in an exhibition match at paris on clay b4 rg started.......it wont be a cakewalk....but federer should win!!

vrael , 5/28/09 7:02 PM

yeah vrael...hear what you say....
apologies zoey...match finished and fed will be playing mattieu...but I think today has shocked the fed...he needed to wak up and he needed this call today....
E-X-A-C-T-L-Y jibi......this was exactly what happened to fed at AO 'cept Acasusos only took a set from roger...and roger wasn't 2 sets down....but the point taken that he made a comeback and he did us fed fans proud......

Am sure he will have done his homework on mattieu and am sure, like every other player on the tour right now, mattieu will be playing to fed's backhand..tho' fed's coach (swiss captain..sven..) will have looked at mattieu's weaknesses and explored a few strategies for our man.

also fed using the drop shot a lot in the tourny and for the most part....it working......
so have faith y'all.....all the big four are gonna their 'scaries' in the early rounds...murray has had his, federer his, time for novak and rafa......

Visualise and look forward.......game by game for Fed.......match by match and visualise that trophy!!!!!!!

Allleeezzzz Fedeerrrrreeeerrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

malteser1 , 5/28/09 7:19 PM

vrael , come on even rafael nadal was beaten on an exhibition match ,,,
dude dont b fooled by the exhibitions ..
well federer will thrash this matthiu guy ..no worries

jibi , 5/28/09 7:26 PM

Good points, and way to stay positive. I am visualizing Sviss Sven is a huddle with Fed!

Finally had time to read the entire threads Malteser and you have no clue what you offer there buddy, offering me a place in November! Especially if Federer wins a Gslam this summer! Girlfriend, I never been to London except in Heathrow My travel is with a medical, dental outreach; otherwise a laboring Home Health RN...who loves to ski and hike and watch tennis.....and yeah Tsonga!

The French crowd was cheering like it was the FO final!!!!!!

Oh no !! Those French now how to get their stars goining

zoey234 , 5/28/09 7:43 PM

im not fooled.........i believe federer will win for sure.......but i dont think it will be a thrashing..!!! lets wait n see

vrael , 5/28/09 7:50 PM

Malteser, nothing against Monaco, I am partial to Tsonga, Monfils, Simon but not Mattieu, not now anyway.....Does the French crowd get behind Federer when matched with a French?

Still so excited I can't type

Uh Vrael , thanks but isn't your favorite somebody other than Fed? Somehow I imagine you wanting a Fed v Nole face off

zoey234 , 5/28/09 8:05 PM

You guys have got to me kidding me!!!!!!.......after the way Fed played today....you guys REALLY believe he has a chance against Novak.....not to even mention RAFA?!!!!!!!!!.....that match was a disaster and the ONLY reason why Fed won is simply because Acacuso DID NOT believe in himself.....and he got injured!!!

"Acasuso tweaked his ankle chasing a drop-shot and he was not the same thereafter."

Fed would NEVER, and I repeat, NEVER get away with that kind of SLOPPY play with the worst of the top ten players!!!!.......and if you are going to remind yourselves about the match with Berdych at the AO......that was just testiment to his mindset and form at the time because he DID lose the final.......and I dont care how close it was......he LOST!!!!

Fed is NOT going to win Roland Garros....not even by a mile!!!!!!.....lets not delude yourselves!!!!!!..........he had TWO days of rest, doesnt even have a tough draw and thats the best he can show for himself!!!!!!!.........Acacuso should have WON that match and it really makes me sick that these guys, EXCEPT FOR RAFA, let Federer get away with murder!!!!!!!

MonaLisa , 5/28/09 8:08 PM

OMG...what was EPIC in this match??? ExFed's
luck...Acasuso's twisting the ancle...that was the breaking point.
Very poorly and clumsy...feeling sorry for Aca...he deserved it...but again that's the tennis...
Even Mats had critics about Fed...can you imagine...

zare , 5/28/09 8:09 PM

Oh go poop on your own party, Mona and Zare...LOL.....you can't spoil my moment in the sun today.....not thinking of Nole right now! (fingers in ears......lalalalalalala...)

zoey234 , 5/28/09 8:15 PM

...stay cool and enjoy zoey...
Press conference with hat...haha...every time he loos or play bad he is hidden behind hat.

zare , 5/28/09 8:19 PM

zoey234...........i want a rafa-fed or rafa-nole final......nd now i think u know who i like.....hez my idol

vrael , 5/28/09 8:24 PM

well, this was definately as crappy match from roger as was the first match from nadal this year at RG

Sanela , 5/28/09 8:29 PM

oh.........misinterpreted zoey's question.........ummmmmm i want rafa in the finals...fed nd nole are most probably gonna clash...i cant help it..nd im a lil bit more inclined towards a rafa-fed final.......i want federer to be at his best nd beat nole

vrael , 5/28/09 8:29 PM

You are right about that Sanela........but Rafa's performance was not half as bad and he did not drop a set!!!!!.......and he was not drifting into the abyss like this one did today!!!!!!

Its not that I wanted Fed to lose per say.........what irritates is when a player has another by the balls and then lets him get away!!!!!.......in tennis I believe you must always KICK your player when he's down!!!!!......and thats what Acasusu did NOT do!!!!.........

The same way Nole deserved to win that match against Rafa in Madrid is the same way Acasuso deserved to win this match today!!!!!!

MonaLisa , 5/28/09 8:54 PM

True...but than again...Federer's opponent played a hell of a lot better than Nadal's in the first round - I just compared the crappiness of our favourites' plays. I disagree with you - Acasuso didn't have what it takes to win, otherwise, he would. It is as simple as that actually.

Sanela , 5/28/09 9:06 PM

MonaLisa ...dont really know what your problem is . I will admit that Fed was playing poorly . But Acussuso never had match point against Fed like Djoker did . In fact he was always behind in the set count ( except when they were tied) . so many palyers have fought back to win when they were down . you seemed very upset that Fed came back to win . This should have gone to a 5th ....yeah ...maybe ...i will even go as FAR as saying that ..but Fed was so not going to loose this match . ...

Your man Djoker btw is flipping out on court rite now ...he is a break down in the second and he just slammed the net with his racquet ...:) ....but we all know he is going to pull through ! well....at least i hope he does ...i want him in the semi's..

fedexfan , 5/28/09 9:06 PM

EPIC AND DRAMA...
Did you saw Dokic today ...ARGHHHHH...I feeling so sorry...So if any1 had luck today it was Dementieva...So sad...

zare , 5/28/09 9:11 PM

Fedexfan...........i dont have a problem.........I am not upset that Fed won......im upset that Acasuso lost!!!!.........lets just put it that way!!!!!!

I like Djoko......but Rafa is my favourite.......however.........if Rafa has to EVER play a game like the one Fed played today in this RGarros........im sorry......i could not honestly believe that he would win the title!......and thats me being VERY honest!!!!!......I just hope Rafa never plays a game like this!!!!!!

MonaLisa , 5/28/09 9:13 PM

but rafa did...in the first round, in a match with no pressure from his opponent - his game sucked. come on, don't be blind now! be fair

Sanela , 5/28/09 9:15 PM

T'was not particularly windy MonaLisa. I checked.....snicker.....

The day is approaching Rafa is almost 23!

I am watching highlights of the Dokic match .....poor Dokic...seriously, zare but Elena D was sweet about it.....over to put an empathetic hand on her back

zoey234 , 5/28/09 9:27 PM

Sanela.......his game sucked but there was ABSOLUTLEY no point in that game where ANYONE thought that Rafa was in the slightest trouble!!!!!!......not like some Fed fans thought today.......even though some are now saying that they never thought that Fed would lose!

As Cheryl Murray said....and I agree...."Federer was close to losing this match in straight sets"

MonaLisa , 5/28/09 9:29 PM

Now the Fed Highlights.......Feddy needed that powder break Malteser. I see Fed came back strong. Deft net play and might I add best looking legs in tennis, hair or no!!

But my fingers remained crossed that his back holds up

zoey234 , 5/28/09 9:36 PM

Zoey...yes... you are right. She was very fair.
OMG...I agree with one of Roge's fun...I am afraid for myself... :-)

zare , 5/28/09 9:43 PM

mona lisa....firstly let me tell you exactly what cheryl said....she said that quote...'no way is federer gonna lose this match...no way...no how'.....go check the fed post.....

zoey...honey...have faith......

Federer showed he was a champion today...He could have folded...He didn't...it's only the non-believers that think that fed is over...........C-'-M-O-N!

Been thinking about the match in more depth.....just got back...he had 3 days off....for a supreme athlete like him...he needs to be 'bouncing' everyday....yeah..you got the practice courts but you need those gritty matches zoey to show everyone who's the boss....fed is the boss....he was the boss there today....eventually....and isn't that what true champions are about? The early rounds are the dangerous rounds...anything can happen....Murray and Rafa were 'in trouble'...am gonna check out novak...i hear he was in trouble today as well? smashing racquets too? .......roger had some glorious play....with '5 games in a row' in the third set after being 2:5 down......C'-M-O-N!!!!!!

REMEMBER that both Ricky and Cheryl predicted rafa would win madrid...look what happened!!!! so just chill.....

Cheryl got it right today with Fed in four......he won't let that happen to him again against mattieu...he on notice that everyone wants a shot at him.

Cant remember which poster said this...would have to read back too far....but remember federer aint no freshman!!!!!!!!!!! he one of THE most experienced players in terms of the way he handles the pressure...he has been handling the pressure much better recently..he has come off a win at madrid...and yeah...tho' its a masters......a slam is where fed is at!

C'mon zoey...believe in your guy.....Ricky 'predicted' fed to reach the semis....he going all the way to the final zoey......

wait until you see the match......my god woman..xx.....how were you feeling when he was two sets down to berdyche at the AO? he just practising today...:-)....he just scaring the fans.....he came through when it mattered most...and that's the important bit....

YEAH......it wasn't one of his best...but he plays better tennis deeper into the tourny when he finds his flow and rhythm..all fedfans know that....

really thought monaco was gonna pull through zoey....sooooo close.......do you see what I mean about being a B-E-A-S-T?

zoey or anyone? am trying to find the presser from fed but cannot find the link...if anyone can help? muchas gracias....xx

Gooooooooooo Feeedddeeeerrrreeeerrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

malteser1 , 5/28/09 9:50 PM

Like you MonaLisa, I really admire Fedfans elation at his win in 4 sets over No 45 in the world, who had set points in the first 3 sets against him. If that was Rafa, I would be seriously depressed about his chances at the business end of the tournament.

carrie , 5/28/09 10:20 PM

Hate to say it, but this is the same Fed we've seen all year...Hopefully this one scares him and he finds something that he hasn't been able to find all year...

thefanchild , 5/28/09 10:36 PM

Malteser1.......like ALL players......they all play better deeper into the tourney......but I think thats deep enough!!!!

I expect Rafa, Fed, Djoko and Murray to be playing A LOT better from here on now!!!.......this is not some poxy tourney, neither are they playing exhibition matches, this is not where you come to practice either!!!!........theyve had enough past tournements to do so!!!

I expect nothing else but GREAT tennis from the top four at RGarros......anything less is ridiculous to say the least!!!!!

I think these guys (esp the top 4) play way too much tennis so by the time they get to the big tourneys they are have to struggle to get to their true form.......and thats why they seem so vulnerable at these Slams........and risk losing to players that some of us have have never even heard of!!!!

MonaLisa , 5/28/09 10:55 PM

yeah...see what you are saying mona lisa...thanks..

Carrie...W-H-Y........O-H.......W-H-Y.........do... . Y-O-U... ALWAYS have to spoil an otherwise intriguing, exciting and interesting..if somewhat scary at times.....thread about federer?

No matter how hard fed fans try to get where you are coming from...there is always a S-A-R-C-A-S-M that speaks volumes.....
and yeah.........quote.....Like you MonaLisa, I really admire Fedfans elation at his win in 4 sets over No 45 in the world, who had set points in the first 3 sets against him. If that was Rafa, I would be seriously depressed about his chances at the business end of the tournament...unquote..

and do you know what carrie....A win is a win! Despite your wishes and bad omens on fed.....you are ridiculous.

thank God you aren't rafa...
and oh...by the way carrie....how did you feel about rafa playing 98th seed in the world (double the seed that played fed)...and wasn't rafa S-T-R-U-G-G-L-I-N-G in the first set? Do you see any of the fed fans on this thread.....being S-M-U-G and S-E-L-F...S-A-T-I-S-F-I-E-D like you? Honestly carrie....this is tennis....try to grow up and realise that whether you know it or not....you put federer on a pedastal....you have high expectations of him for E-V-E-R-Y match...sometimes...it doesn't happen that way.

...and what about murray? I guess....like the eurosports commentators said yesterday, when murray was down 2 games to 5 against the ....9-8-T-H seed in the world, that he should be written off as well?......oooooooooohhh......errrrrrrr...

And Novak today......0:4 down in the first set....but he clawed his way back and it was 'clawing' his way back....(words used by commentators no less)....that shows what a great player novak is.......

Tell ya what....let's write off the big four completely........'cos princess carrie doesn't rate 'em....thinks fed is crap, forgets to mention rafa, and novak doesn't even come into the picture.

Nice one carrie........as usual.....

you could look at it in a more positive way tho'...you could see it as federer using his experience, some M-A-G-I-C-A-L shots (because he did use 'em), self-belief and mettle in order to come through in FOUR SETS....however much you wanted him to lose carrie.....H-E....W-O-N.....

and you started off so nicely...why do you change so often with your views on federer?

malteser1 , 5/28/09 11:18 PM

GREETINGs FEDfans!!! CHEERS!!!GREAT to see The FED WIN yet another match at Roland Garros! Amazing COME BACK!!! One game at a time buddy, one game at a time. Not many players can come from behind in a 5 to 1 deficit and WINNING it! The FED did show some GRIT when he needed it the MOST! Each game is different, each situation is different. I believe the FEd is clever enough to pull it off. It's not going to be easy. One game at a time. Bring it ON! FED/RAFA final :) FED ON TOP!!! LOL Go FED go...

sky , 5/28/09 11:24 PM

sky.....where ya been? did you get to watch the match or were you at work?

God....what a C-O-R-K-E-R.......phew!!!!!!!!!!me and Zoey...fedexfan....tomnjerry2 all having heart attacks at times!!!!!!!!!! that's the fed!!!!!!!!! just found the link to his interview at RG...go watch it......the french part is THE most interesting....

good that he acknowledges that he had a bit of a struggle on his hands and that acasuso played well...which by golly, he did!!!!!!! Whooppppeee sky...our fed man did it again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Allllezzzzzzzzzzz Feedeeerrrrrreeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

malteser1 , 5/28/09 11:55 PM

ESPN2 is going to broadcast Fed's interview "shortly" they promise. Malteser are you still there? It's late in your time zone.

Howdy Sky! Nice to read you pardner! I'm with you after finally watching the match. Acasuso was thinking he would be the one to knock Federer out of an early round. He was playing a memorable match until Federer took control and said, 'sorry pal not this time'. Always a gent, that Fed. Malteser and Sky, I'm just happy every time Fed gets a win, appreciating him more than ever! Not gonna let it rain on the day...no wet blanket posters nor negative drivel can dampen my spirit!

zoey234 , 5/29/09 12:07 AM

Hi malteser1!!! Our FED continues to CHALLENGE at Roland Garros! What a THRILLING second half in the third set!!! It was HARD to tare myself away from the TV set (at work)!!! LOL Would you believe I only watch TV when the FED is playing tennis?! LOL I'm off to visit a friend now, so if you don't here from me for a few hrs this is why. Take good care malteser!!! Go FED go...

sky , 5/29/09 12:16 AM

Looking at this I think djokovic is going to get him .

nirv02 , 5/29/09 12:27 AM

ZoEy!!! Had to stick around just to congratulate us "all" on our FED pulling off ANOTHER WIN!!! No game is insugnificant. We have to enjoy every piece of it! ALL of it!!! No taking for granted... We have to watch all the pieces of the puzzle as it unfolds..., until the FED has COMPLETED the puzzle and "WON" Roland Garros!!! Go FED go.. "ALL THE WAY"!!! :)

sky , 5/29/09 12:31 AM

Roger looks tan and rested. Sounds up, very sweet, no baseball cap; very sincere, giving credit to Acasuso, admitting he needed to change things during the match like take a step back. Lookin' good Malteser. Going to check if the RG site has the full interview posted.....

zoey234 , 5/29/09 12:31 AM

Hi zoey...yeah FULL interview at RG site...with a video clip of fed....awwwww!!!!
yeah..it's late...but just watched the match on rerun....so much easier to watch a match when you know your man won...eh?....and I have madrid to watch again tomorrow....gives me positivity...energy....and makes me feel that fed is fired and raring to go.......

Looking at and being able to dissect the match more carefully....he played some G-R-E-A-T drop shots zoey......but he was not aggressive enough today.....I think he will learn from the experience.

I also watched the Murray interview...you'll be able to watch that too on the RG site with a video clip....both players say they need to look at their game...work on what went 'wrong'....federer should have wrapped it up in 3 sets....he admits that...but as we know....it don't always work out that way with our man sometimes......

game by game...match by match.....the fed is gonna winnnnnnnn!!!!!!!!!!!

Zippideeee dooooooo daaaaah dayyyyyyyy!!!!!!!!!!!

Allezzzz rooggggggggeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!

sky...great to hear you again.....time for zzzzzzzzzz for me...so catch y'all tom.

malteser1 , 5/29/09 12:49 AM

Rest up Malteser, sky, Nilofar and ya'll fedfans we'll need the energy for the next round!

I spaced out and did not record Malteser but yes, this morning was heart stopping. Second time around I can appreciate the match: both Acasuso's tennis and Roger's heart and sheer ability to say NO to losing! Nighty Nite.

zoey234 , 5/29/09 1:02 AM

fedexfans .....C'MON !!! :) ....and the fedex train rolls on

fedexfan , 5/29/09 1:44 AM

hey...fedexfan....what a day!!!!!!!!!!!! been reflecting and listening to what fed said in his interview....the guy knows....he knows........................this is a slam and he gotta do this now...reach the final.......keep those statistics high!!!!!!!!! Awesome....

we all know that fed had 12 tie breakers this year...and he won 9 of 'em......eurosports commenting on that...saying this record is A-W-E-S-O-M-E.....

we all want feds fourth attempt at RG final to be T-H-E O-N-E slam he wants to add to his collection!!!!!!!!!If Agassi did it in 1999 on the 11th attempt at the age of 35(?)(31)?....then fed can do it at 4th attempt at 27!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Goooooooooo Fedddddeeeerrrrreeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Allezzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz............. ..Allllllllleeeeezzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

malteser1 , 5/29/09 7:55 AM

Yup !!!! Fedexfan.............the train is now unstoppable !!!!

Go Roger Go !!!!!!

tomnjerry2 , 5/29/09 8:06 AM

Why change of carriage fedfans, no longer the Bus but a Train now?

Just wondering if it's the conservative STEAM-COAL Train or the Fast Jet Train. Which one do you prefer fedfans so I can start writing about your new carriage. hehe

Raindrops , 5/29/09 8:45 AM

we never changed the carriage raindrops....it's A-L-W-A-Y-S been the fedex....only the S-O-U-R rafafans....like you....who 'changed' the term.....who tried to poke fun at the King of Tennis.....you carry on....we can't hear you......we still celebrating.....

your so classy raindrops......

malteser1 , 5/29/09 8:48 AM

RafaPower!!!!!!!!!!

Malteser, I am not trying to talk Roger down, I just admire your enthusiasm and joy over his narrow escape.

I wasn't elated after Rafa's first round, I was relieved. I felt much better after his match against Gabashvili, but I didn't feel like celebrating anything, because although he had got his game more together, he had to work hard to win.

I am very cautious by nature and probably naturally pessimistic, so I never assume anything, not even where the King of Clay is concerned. I'm wishing and hoping he gets better and better.

I watched his interview after rnd 1 in 2008, and it was as if he was talking about his match against Daniel. He was saying that he found it hard to get his rythym; but he got better and better through the other rounds, and blew 'you know who' off the court in the final.

VAMOS RAFA!!!!!!!!!!! The Pink Panther......Inspector Clouseau is on the case.

carrie , 5/29/09 9:15 AM

Didn't read much of all the posts but the recent ones show that the fedfans used the term TRAIN. Who are those sour graping rafans used the TRAIN malteser1?

Raindrops , 5/29/09 9:25 AM

raindrops...i cannot speak for other fedfans....i speak for myself on these threads...no one else...quote....'Why change of carriage fedfans, no longer the Bus but a Train now?

Just wondering if it's the conservative STEAM-COAL Train or the Fast Jet Train. Which one do you prefer fedfans so I can start writing about your new carriage. hehe'..
I've NEVER used bus?...WHO used the word 'BUS'???? rafa fans I think...just enjoy fed's victory raindrops...i know it pains you....but just shows the grit of the man and the will to win...

by being sour....(yep...that's you raindrops)...you sink to an all time lowwwwwwwwww......

malteser1 , 5/29/09 9:47 AM

malteser's zeal is admiralbe but however you look at it, I'd be at least a bit uneasy if I were a Fed inconditionate fan...

French Open - Men: Federer battles into third round

The Swiss world number two was 5-1 down in the third set, saving a set point at 5-2 on his way to winning five games in a row to force a tiebreak which he snatched with a sizzling serve that his 45th-ranked opponent could not control.

Federer did not make it easy for himself in a protracted first set, with the 13-times grand slam winner having to save five break points in the fourth game after Acasuso dealt deftly with two Federer smashes that would normally have been winners.

The pair traded breaks in the sixth and seventh games before it eventually went to a tiebreak where Federer saved four set points before pulling back to snatch the set for himself with a tidy dropshot on his second set point.

Acasuso, who has won three clay-court titles and knocked out second seed Andy Roddick at Roland Garros in 2005, gave the Swiss a few lessons in how to play on his least favourite surface in the second.

Sliding around with ease, the 26-year-old Argentine hit some excellent passing shots while Federer's unforced errors continued to mount, at one point he had 38 to his opponent's 20.

After seeing his chance of a big upset evaporate in the third set, Acasuso went out with a whimper in the fourth when he messed up a service return.

Federer will face French 32nd seed Paul-Henri Mathieu, who advanced as a 6-2 6-3 6-4 winner over Spainard Pablo Andujar .

malterser1 don't make your life miserable. If you didn't use the Bus then shut your prothing mouth. Let the fedfans who used it to say something.

You have so many mental lapses malteser1. YOU said, you can "only speak for yourself" but check your lousy self, YOU ARE always the first one to answer some posts that are not supposed to be answerable by you MEANING you are SPEAKING FOR THE WHOLE FEDFANS shame on you.

SHUT UP you locquacious satirical woman and let the right fedfans to take their chance to answer what was being asked.

Raindrops , 5/29/09 10:10 AM

Raindrops, well done, these days I'm just watching, reading and keeping quit, but your comment made my day, excellent, regards...

gordana , 5/29/09 10:19 AM

raindrops....if you dont wanna reply to my posts then D-O-N-T.....freedom of choice...know what I'm sayin'?

don't tell me to shut up...you pumped up, frustrated S-O-U-R rafafan.......you talk ridiculous sometimes.........if other fedfans want to reply...they will.....you know sometimes timezones don't allow us all to speak at the same time.....

Gordana...your right.....its about time you kept quiet after all the bad luck you wished on fed.....awful woman....you made my last few weeks for being so quiet....so I want to thank you gordana.....

malteser1 , 5/29/09 10:29 AM

I'm having a very strange craving these days... I'm actually wishing for Fed to reach the FINALS and POSSIBLY meet Rafa.
Well ...strange things happen all the time!

agf25agf , 5/29/09 10:38 AM

sent my previous thread to quickly carrie and forgot my manners!!! I didn't reply to you....apologies.

carrie....why do you want to post federer's interview? I find it really strange???? do you not think that we fed fans wouldn't have read the numerous interviews that he did after the match yesterday? or were you just trying to be helpful?
We know that it was a 'bumpy ride' yesterday....perhaps you would also like to post interview on rafa when he 'struggled' or murray when he 'clawed his way back'.....or perhaps make reference to Novak's 'scary moments' in the first set yesterday when he was 0:4 down?

I am surprised when someone who has openly stated how much they dislike federer has taken the time and trouble to post his interview? I can only assume you want to rub salt into the wound? Ah well...you are living up to your true form carrie...nice one....

Am not saying to you that at some points of the match yesterday I wasn't nervous..I was...and I think in a nicer moment, you stated that you had to leave the room when rafa was playing...so we are kind of understanding each other at certain moments aren't we? But really carrie..stop with the sarcasm?

I'd like to say it doesn't become you...but it does...more and more...when you do things like this....

I know what you mean about taking things slowly....but I am not a naturally negative person as you say you are...I like to think positively and I dream of fed's final against rafa and that he beats him to succeed this year....if he doesn't well...there is always next time....but remember agassi tried 11 times before he won the FO...and fed has been so close the last 3 finals....so I just feel that he still has a chance and yesterday was a 'wake up' call for him....fedfans have all had their hairy moments with fed...but we stand by him because we love his style of play and his beautiful tennis....what is wrong with being a loyal fan? why would I want to punish him in terms of his match yesterday? It's ridiculous......I am routing for him to win...and I believe that he can......

as you are a diehard rafa fan....perhaps you should be posting on a different thread rather than stoking it up...I know you love it and you have the gorgeous raindrops to support you here....(match made in heaven).....

also raindrops...another thing......i don't speak for the whole of the fed fans...am on holiday this week and so have more time...and I love tennis and I'll be damned if some narrow minded loser like you is gonna put me off...you have a problem raindrops....when you post whenever you like that's fine? who the hell are you? King of bloody France? You make me laugh.....grow up and behave like a man and not a child who cant get his own way....poor baby.....

malteser1 , 5/29/09 10:43 AM

"STRANGE THINGS HAPPEN ALL THE TIME!"

agf25agf

you hit the "BULLSEYE" buddy! LOL Your on to "SOMETHING"! and won't it be
"STRANGE" when the FED "BEATS" Rafa this time! Strange... and "SWEET"...!!! Go Roger go... :

sky , 5/29/09 10:57 AM

RF..."I started to struggle a little bit throughout the third set "...
LITTLE BIT...? ...seven games in row...hahaha...
Did you notice...when he loose or play bad...always well hiden behind hat...man with no eyes...behind his delusions and arogancy...
...but what amount of luck...not to mention Madrid anymore...this time twisted ankle...no fedfan saw that...that was breaking point. ExFed did not start to play better...Aca let him do that...his movement was maybe 50% after that...
So exFed did it again...again he was LUCK. That's all...just shadow of ex champion moved up with just glances of old glory...
And still so arogant, it was nice when he stoped to play...and umpire was so confused...show him mark, and that's it...AS.

zare , 5/29/09 10:58 AM

I post anything I feel might be of interest to bloggers here, just in case someone has missed it. To be honest, I didn't even read all of it.

People shouldn't get too carried away if the number 2 seed wins a second round match easily, let alone if they struggle to do it. As I said, if Rafa was in Roger's shoes yesterday, I would be seriously worried about him making the second week. Being loyal is quite different to getting carried away by the narrowest of wins.

malteser, I'm glad I don't disappoint you.

carrie , 5/29/09 11:06 AM

malteser, I've decided to come back specially for you, do you know what, your arrogant one was just lucky, he was so bad, feel sorry for Acasuso cause he was much better than Federina, anyhow, it's a matter of time when he'll be stopped, just keep dreaming of RG title, and keep writing expertise, overestimate your 'knowledge', showing to whole world how you're 'smart, informed, and so on', I feel sorry for people like you, you'd like to be normal from time to time, and finally, I'd love to have your brain for few days, just to take some rest...

gordana , 5/29/09 11:10 AM

SKY i think u are just day-dreaming. its obvious that roger wont make it to the final. it was just luck that saw him thru against acasuso. fed shld count himself lucky if he graces the privilage of meeting jocker in the semis

damianthorn , 5/29/09 11:12 AM

And he can hope that Nole will break his leg during the first set. Only...ONLY then he would have chance to go to final...maybe 50%...hehehe

zare , 5/29/09 11:18 AM

...AJDE ANA...!!!
...E DA MI JE TVOJ MOZAK...kako se ja toga nisam setio....

zare , 5/29/09 11:24 AM

I will never wish harm to any of the players. The FED will "WIN" Roland Garros! It is his "DESTINY"!!! LOL If his style of playing offers him more protection..., so be it. Go Roger go... :)

sky , 5/29/09 11:32 AM

Sky I think that his destiny is NOT to take RG. Isn't that obvious??? I mean ...we are fans ...we can all have hopes...that OK. But ...DESTINY??

zare , 5/29/09 11:42 AM

zare... what do u mean..."when he loose or play bad...always well hiden behind hat...man with no eyes...behind his delusions and arogancy....."????
for your information,Roger DID say in his post match interview that he was a bit LUCKY to win...
that's good enough, whatever he says his haters will bring up issues on arrogancy and so on...ok like u just said we are all fans, but why do some ppl crticize characters all the time???you're not a Fed fan, that does not mean u should put him down(esp on the character issue). it's really frustrating...

carrie...it's the same for us too.I AM worried and I'm not sure if he makes it to 2nd week!!!!!!but that doesn't mean other ppl should not let fed fans enjoy escaping the disaster...at least for a while.

niloofar , 5/29/09 1:24 PM

cahill's comments are interesting:

niloofar , 5/29/09 1:44 PM

What a game! My heart wants to jump out my chest watching Fed! Acasuso, played well. However our Fed must forefill his dream with our support, to clinch this title. One player at a time! YOU WILL BE JUST FINE!!!

fofe , 5/29/09 1:46 PM

carrie....no problemo...you are right up there honey in my estimation.....xx

gordana.....quote....'I feel sorry for people like you, you'd like to be normal from time to time, and finally, I'd love to have your brain for few days, just to take some rest...' unquote.....

honey.....R-E-A-L-L-Y...do not feel sorry for me..I am jussssssst fine.....why on earth would you want my 'brain'? In many posts you have said I don't have one? so am not sure I could you give you my 'non-existent brain?' I mean..it's a no-brainer..right?

I have always respected people that try to learn the English language Gordana...so I want to thank you for trying your hardest with your expression and your inuendos....am not sure I could do the same in serbian...so bravo...**claps for gordana**

I think that you are a very unsportsmanlike poster gordana to wish such bad luck on fed all the time...don't you ever get tired? or does it just fire you up into orbit? Try to see it this way gordana....quite simply...yesterday federer was able to get his mojo back at the crucial points of the match, like great champions do....and go on to win....i was dancing like a silly woman....I admit...smiling like a crazy person with no brain.....(oh yeah honey...that's me!!!!...it's a no-brainer...right?!)...it makes me happy gordana to watch fed win...I mean he been so used to it for so long....and let's face it. At least he has defended slams....what about your 'dearest boy'...fairplay to novak...he has won a slam...but he is yet to defend it....do you EVER hear any of the fed fans have a go at novak? No. You are just so.......awful....but that is your nature.....

niloofar...thank you for the link...i was able to read the comments and I have posted a small section of the cahill report... as it is quite long, in particular for sky and zoey when they both wake up again!!!!!!

Fofe....your sentiments are matched with mine.....one game at a time buddy and for fed to stay on focus.....despite these trash talkers.......he doesn't care...he gonna get there.....cheers fofe...

for all fedfans....(with thanks to niloofar xx)...

That first-round match [in the French Open, against Alberto Martin], he was working on his drop shots, trying some things," Cahill said. "It was a practice match for the rest of the tournament."

The second round was far more difficult. Acasuso actually had a 6-3 lead in the first-set tiebreaker and squandered four set points before Federer won the final point with a serve outside and a delicate drop shot. After losing the second set, Federer fell behind 5-1 in the third.

Was he worried? "Yes, a bit," Federer said. "But I was not afraid to die, so everything was OK."

Sure enough, Federer saved another set point and rallied to force another tiebreaker, which seemed to break Acasuso's spirit. Federer won that breaker easily and took six of the last seven games in the final set.

"I'm happy to have come through such a tough match," he said. "I'm excited about the next match, that's for sure."

If the draw progresses as expected -- although, suddenly, the prospect of meeting Frenchmen Paul-Henri Mathieu or Jeremy Chardy in the next few rounds feels vaguely uncomfortable -- Federer would meet Novak Djokovic in the semifinals. After pushing Nadal to the very brink in Madrid, Djokovic has been anointed as the man most likely to beat Nadal. Federer aches to change that perception.

Much has been made of Federer's spasm of temper in Miami, but Cahill saw it as a positive thing, a back-to-the-future message.

"That sent him back to his junior days," Cahill said. "It showed he cares. The young Roger wanted to show the world he could be one of the best players in the world. He wants to do that again.

"I think he's got his spark back."

Fed fans are getting agravated, the reason being that the truth is staring on their faces - there are stifer competition for Fed now unlike 3 or 4yrs ago.

tennis now is for gladiators not ballet dancers. Fedfans please face it!!

damianthorn , 5/29/09 3:41 PM

damianthorn...are you going to be a 'thorn' in everyone's side......????

Listen buddy..we know that he the WORLD NO.2....we know......quote...'unlike 3 or 4 yrs ago?' unquote....yeah...during those years and even now as recent as 2008...A SLAM.....when he was winning and still is winning...in 2009....he may not be the same player dt....accepted...but he is still a JOY to watch....it's only trashers like you who keep having to remind us...all the time?...It kinda gets a bit.........b-o-r-i-n-g.... ya know?

I don't particularly get 'aggravated' dt...i get surprised when so many posters are so damning all the time....that's what aggravating...people like you.....that go on and on like a broken cd player.....yawn...yawn....

tennis is for gladiators...you are right.....that is why 'federer maximus' is such a fine gladiator!!!!!!! He's a fighter you see...

Your time will come dt.....your time will come.....but somehow I think the fedfans will have a lot more class than you currently display......

malteser1 , 5/29/09 4:00 PM

I'm starting to think the writers on this site don't like Roger Federer much. First, there was Mr. Dimon's bollocks about Federer's quarter being "Teh EEZIEST draw EVARR!!!1!!one!" and now Ms. Murray's complete fallacy about Acsuso's "tweaked ankle." I watched the whole match, Acasuso stepped wrong on one point a took one or two steps gingerly afterwards (seemed to be more his knee than ankle, to me), and then seemed perfectly confident that no injury had been incurred. It did not, in ANY way, affect his play. It had NO EFFECT on the outcome of this match. Do not delude yourselves, and try and have a little more journalistic integrity next time you cover a match. Thanks.

-Arvis

Arvis , 5/29/09 4:15 PM

the problem with the posters on this site is that fedfans take there analysis very personal and as such danm others. malteser, your comments are not as gracious as ur fed plays (at least as u fedfans claim - ballet tennis). try to relax and stop bully-like comments. this game is for us all to enjoy.

damianthorn , 5/29/09 4:22 PM

This match proved what was not needing any proof. The Madrin final's 6-4 6-4 was a fake. That match has never took place, Rafa could not play that day.
Djokovic will put off Federer in semifinal here at French Open.

mynameislink , 5/29/09 4:35 PM

malteser, I do think you should try to calm down. It seems a bit unfair that you charge complains against gordana and homos, tho understandable yet you come across quite aggressively at times. There's abit of double standards. My post 1-2 days ago got attacked when I said nothing against Fed, only cheered the opponent but Fed fans didn't like it. You took offense to homos saying he/she didn't like Fed yet eqm said he/she didn't like Rafa but you didn't mention a word against that. It's a sport mate, we're not at war with each other. We've had people posting stats and feeling oblighed to state: "Fed fans please don't take offense". Seems ridiculous, don't you think? It'd be nice if we can just discuss and have fun.

remi , 5/29/09 4:44 PM

Yes Remi. Also it is to be said that talking like supporters (or hooligans...) makes arguments poor. I'd love to read and make some more in depth, technical discussion. They always talk about wins and loss, and never about the game, who has a nice volèe and why, who has a nice backhand and why, and so on.

mynameislink , 5/29/09 4:50 PM

dt...you absolutely right....so be a little more gracious in your comments about fed and try not to blame others.....we all have our own opinions...hallellejah...praise be to God......

remi....you misunderstand me....there is no aggression from my side...at all....i really wish that people would stop directing posts to me....why? I respond when people attack...that is the truth of it.....honestly remi.....i do think it gets ridiculous and I don't take this all that seriously...trust me...this is light relief for me.....i enjoy federer's game.....he a diamond amongst all the cut glass.. (except rafa who is a beast)...i respect other players games...i don't bad mouth rafa, novak or any of the other players....but as arvis said earlier....the amount of posters who bad mouth fed...at the moment...zoey and sky are sleeping in US somewhere...so...as am in uk right now...and on holiday.....just chewing the fat...you know...its not a big deal...but remi....you now seem so much more objective than you used to be...good to see..and I will try and be more so...but i am a happy chick....happy...happy...happy....honest...xx

problem is go check out some of raindrops and homos posts remi....insulting words directed to me? why? no need...now i am not the sort of person to let that go...and why should I? so trust me if you go read those threads...you will see who started this and it certainly was not me....so please...leave it there and lets get back to the tennis..

looks as if rafa is coming into form.....roger better watch out in the final...eh?!!!!!!

malteser1 , 5/29/09 4:50 PM

meanwhile, rafa is busy trashing hewitt!! match is still ongoing

damianthorn , 5/29/09 4:52 PM

Oh come on guys n girls, tennis is the beautiful game, remember, it's got lots of room for gladiators and ballet dancers and magicians and jokers and gobby little thugs who played thrilling tennis and gutsy guys who fight till the last... and..... and; lets cut a little slack here.

deuce , 5/29/09 4:56 PM

malteser, without wanting to drag this further I didn't say you bad mouth players. Reading some of your post, my feeling is that some come across aggressive. I already indicated what I think of some of G and H's posts but I'm not going to search them out now. Also, FYI, when I came on board last year, I made a comment in the discussion about Rafa-Rog relation, adding to other comments why I stopped being a Rog fan and a Fed fan (who still pops up) immediately launched an extremely aggresive attack on me. That's why I was always negative towards Fed fans. Like you said, let's leave it there.

remi , 5/29/09 5:02 PM

Absolutely right deuce!

remi , 5/29/09 5:08 PM

Remi............... just to clarify.... when i said 'i dont like nadal' it was in response to what homos wrote earlier about Federer but nothing more than that .......i didnt went further and said something bad about nadal...........furthermore i've seen so many nadal's fan mentioned that they dont like federer including you.... remi, agf, teardrops, carrie, gordana.and more.................so shouldnt be any problem isnt it?.............what homos said was much worse. Have to agree with malteser1 that fedfans have much more classssssssssssssssssss!

eqm , 5/29/09 5:15 PM

remi...we all different here...right? nobody really means any harm towards each other right? this is just a game.....when i get bored playing xbox 360 with my brother, i click onto here...it's just fun.....

remi..you are entitled to your opinion...of course.....homos just took it too far calling me scum and psycho...for no reason and it was uncalled for.....

anyways......did you read the article from cahill bout fed? (as above)...if you did then what do you think? .....federer has got to be more aggressive in my view...i honestly don't feel that he is over...far from it...but I do feel that tho' he changing his game, he gotta step it up....big time.....

i have an inate belief in him...that he wants this so much...it all gonna come right for him......am i being naive? i don't think so.....he just such an amazing player....and also...what do you think of monaco's game? I love him.

malteser1 , 5/29/09 5:16 PM

Malt, that link didn't work for me, I tried it earlier. Can you access it and give me a link again? I want to read it.

OK, so eqm is implying other fans have much less class than Fed fans. Now how do I take this? Who is starting a fight now malteser, I'm curious?

remi , 5/29/09 5:33 PM

Why not move on to Federer's next match, Acasuso is history, Federer won that match, there are no prizes to nearly winning, which Acasuso did.

Federer's next round will be far smoother than Rafa's, so Fedfans can take courage, Mathieu will be no match for him. I hope Soderling beats Ferrer, although I'm sure Rafa can handle either of them, but he'll have to wrok for it if it's Ferrer.

carrie , 5/29/09 6:11 PM

carrie, federer's nxt match smoother than rafa's? oh please carrie u disapoint me!! i guess u ddnt watch rafa's game against hewitt... that's the definition of smooth.

damianthorn , 5/29/09 6:21 PM

Vamos Rafa!!!!!!!!!!!!

What I mean is, Rafa is likely to play Ferrer next, and Roger only has Mathieu to contend with.

Rafa was as smooth as silk against Hewitt, no boubt about that. I'm now lookin at the road ahead.

VAMOS RAFA!!!!!!!!!!

carrie , 5/29/09 6:32 PM

Against Rafa, Ferrer does more efforts than against other players. It is said they are friends, but seems Ferrer hates him.
Jeaolusy?...

mynameislink , 5/29/09 6:34 PM

ferrer hate nadal???? where did u get that idea??? go see the barcelona ending ceremony, rafa beat ferrer der........nd the ceremony was a party...rafa sprayed champagne all over ferrer.....they r davis cup team mates.....nd ferrer has always been complimentory for rafa!!!

vrael , 5/29/09 6:37 PM

remi......you don't need to ask me honey.....i just think you have to smile and either ignore or speak direct to eqm...to be fair to him/her.....i responded with the lack of class when raindrops had a pop at me.....so he just copying me i guess from an earlier post......but i don't think he/she mean anything by it....but your choice remi....by the way are you male/female?

carrie is right....we need to move on from federer/acasuso match.......rafa was awesome today against hewitt carrie...wasn't he? Watched the match and it was a masterclass.....i really hope federer analyses his game and comes on to the court with all guns blazing...full of aggression like federer maximus can be!!!!!!

mathieu a solid player carrie...and am underestimating no one...just want my man to focus and show 'em all a masterclass himself....

C'mon the fed!!!!!!!

Allezzzzzzzzzzzz Rooooooggggeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

malteser1 , 5/29/09 6:38 PM

I think everyone brings their A+ game against Rafa, without that, they are likely to be drubbed. Verdasco struggled to beat Almagro today, someone that Rafa beats with his eyes closed. I did not see any of the swashbuckling shots Verdasco hits against Nadal in his match with Almagro.

carrie , 5/29/09 7:18 PM

c'mon....tipsy.......

Federer gonna be tight and ready tomorrow for mathieu.......i am looking for a straight sets win from him and fewer toilet breaks from me!

malteser1 , 5/29/09 7:21 PM

To say that you have more class than others is CLASSY? You're a joke eqm. And where's my ice cream?

danny , 5/29/09 7:25 PM

Malteser. am only home for a quick lunch. Thought I'd check scores and say hi to fedfans on this thread but YIKES!! I see the sorta neutral to friendly spirit between Rafa/Roger fans that briefly existed when I said good night is gone......long.......gone!

Just a suggestion: Carrie, gordana, Remi et al.......well. not gonna say it but imagine you can guess

See, this is tennis talk and we are not going to agree. In the real world I fancy we are all nice people who care and I do enjoy the banter here to a point. I enjoy reading my comrades for FEDERER more than countering cheap shots ya'll fire at malteser who is obviously a fine human being and Federer whose record stands/ speaks for itself. I do not believe Federer is arrogant but that is my opinion from making a study of him for nearly 7 years.

Personally I enjoy this site, whatever .....prefer happy people to party poopers and sarcasm.....though I can dish sarcasm and flip crapcakes in the muck as well as anyone.....just not today, as I must keep my job and pay the bills.

Hold the fort Malteser and Sky! I'll see ya'll when possible this weekend tho I take call.

This was supposed to be a Roger Federer 'yeah' thread but congrats to Rafa

Allllllllllllleeeeeeeeeeezzzzzzzzzzz and Vammmmmmmmossssssss and C'MOOOOOOONNNNNN Roger!!!!!!

zoey234 , 5/29/09 7:44 PM

this is what annoys me about high and mighty people like you zoey. Cheap shots at malteser?? What about the cheap shot from eqm that fed fans have more class? what cheap shot did I make? I asked malteser a few questions and the conversation between is is fine. You're defensive of Fed fans because you are one of them and you see everyone else as being at fault. You guys NEVER start anything!
Enuf already. You guys make me sick!!
Malteser I'l catch you in another thread mate. This one disgusts me!

remi , 5/29/09 8:06 PM

Malteser1, we seem to agree about Fed, it is probably the Cypriot in us!!
Federer is nervous, all the top players are nervous because their ranking is important to them!! If you are playing Nr. 45 or 197 or 81, it does not matter if they come down a notch! However the top players ranking is important!! So you get the low ranked plays like the eg above who play with a lot of confidence and very well!! when they play, because they dont have much to loose. Murray has also been playing very very tight matches JUST winning them and so did Nadal in his first game!! Fed will be just fine!!

fofe , 5/29/09 8:13 PM

remi...honey...chill......

zoey only defending me.....this is what started this and I have posted it to you here...and this was from raindrops...which was then added to by gordana.....
quote.....
malterser1 don't make your life miserable.

SHUT UP you locquacious satirical woman and let the right fedfans to take their chance to answer what was being asked....unquote...
then gordana added her penny's worth.....quote...Raindrops, well done, these days I'm just watching, reading and keeping quit, but your comment made my day, excellent, regards.....unquote.

so zoey will have read these and made her own judgment on them....
remi you gotta be fair here.....if raindrops were calmer and more controlled then he wouldn't have come up with such class less and personal remarks? seconded by gordana....so don't be harsh on zoey.......she very level headed and I think less emotional than me!!!!!!!!!!! but am only a spring chicken and still to learn!!!!!!

anyways...we've come a long way today...so let's just see how long it lasts eh?!!! Fed plays tomorrow remi and I send him utter, complete positive focused thoughts....he gonna be a lot smoother in his style but much more aggressive!!!!!!!!cos he knows if he wants to win this tourny, then he gonna have to prove it to himself more than anything...

Allllezzzzzzzzzzz Federerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

About Fed

fan4tennis , 5/29/09 9:36 PM

Hello FEDfans! I'm sure it was a GREAT day of rest for "our" FED. Our FED is moving in the right direction...(FORWARD!) LOL

malteser1 I'm Canadian! Same continent as Zoey though, and possibly same time zone (Don't know where zoey lives in the States) I'm on EST. As usual I was working today... Did get to watch some tennis. Rafa was very dominant! Something to make the Rafa fans proud. But hey?! We have "THE FED", and he is coming ON!!! LOL Anybody playing the FED better be at their best (and then some)! LOL We know that the FED can lose, but WILL HE?!!! I think not. Advice for you non FEDfans, you should NEVER give up on your player! and don't EVER expect us FEDfans to GIVE UP OURS (THE FED)! The FED ROCKS! I said IT!!! LOL :) Go Roger go...

malteser1 I had already read the article by Cahill on Roger. He has a healthy opinion of our FED. I enjoyed reading Cahill's perceptions on Roger. The FED is still an AMAZING player. We FED fans know it, and we "LOVE" him! (his style of play is fun to watch) I'm talking to FEDfans here I already know where you non FEDfans are coming from. If you enjoyed the FED as much as we do, you would be FEDfans too! LOL Cheers Everyone! Go FED go...

sky , 5/29/09 10:51 PM

Hey Sky!!!!!!!!! your back!!!!!!! yeah baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yeah...sky..you fill me with laughter!!!!!!! chuckling like a crazy witch baby!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks to FFT for posting article on fed......enough now...we have to move on to tomorrow as carrie mentioned earlier...a win is a win...and fed gotta show grit and determination if he is to reach the final......

Sky......we are gonna support our man ALWAYS......ALWAYS.....he is a player who still has much to achieve...he simply cannot stay on No.13 slam....he....along with his team......need to urge him on to make the changes needed to his game and his mindset...have gotta say..............tho' yesterday was full of 'ups' n 'downs'....the end result was that FED came through...he dug deep...he switched on his 'A' game and he came through....G-R-E-A-T...C-H-A-M-P-I-O-N-S only can do this......and he is ..............................T-H-E...........G-R-E-A-T-E-S-T......... .

if he to meet Novak in semis...then Novak gonna be on fire....got something to prove....but I believe that roger will do it....he is THE BEST FIVE SETTER in the business....but I would expect him to do it in 4 sets with a more aggressive style of play......but rewinding...he gotta get through the next round.....he gotta focus on that and play the game....game by game...match by match....

I read a brilliant article today sky....I hadn't fully realised the A-M-A-Z-I-N-G team that Fed has working with him......the media always bang on about the fact that he has NO coach...but in actual fact...tho' I knew that Severin ('Sven')...captain of the swiss davis cup team...coached him part time...he actually coached him for 35 weeks in 2008...that is a FULL TIME COACH.....plus read about his fitness trainer, his masseur....he does have a game plan and they are doing the 'groundwork' behind the scenes...I felt better....because always it appears that 'Fed' is on his own....this isn't the case....he has a F-U-L-L...T-E-A-M.... behind him and am sure that they will be working to put the things right that went 'wrong' in his match with acasuso...

Gooooooooooooooo Fedddeerrrrrrrrrrreeeeeeeeeerrr

Alllezzzzz.............Allezzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzz

malteser1 , 5/29/09 11:34 PM

zoey....get ready for another ride with fed tomorrow honey...not a rollercoaster ride..but this time a smoother, more aggressive match.....

C'monnnnnnnnnnnnnn the fed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Allllleeezzzzzzzzzzzzzz le finale mon ami monsieur federerrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!

malteser1 , 5/29/09 11:39 PM

Sky ....ah so you are Canadian, eh? Nicest people on the planet but that's my bias as I grew up in N Idaho, family vacations were to Banff but now I live in central Idaho...Denver Nugget and Jazz country, Rocky Mountain Daylight time here. Please do not fear, not placing a personal ad here or anywhere...simply happy to read a Fed fan. Tennis is not spoken here until Wimbledon, so Rafa and Roger are known but it is surprising how many people have only a vague idea who Andy Roddick is and forget asking the local sport pub even bashfully to switch on Tennis. For the love of God, it is NBA playoffs!! 16:00 here my friend and I'm out the door again. Completely obsessed with keeping up with the results Sky, so I keep checking the logging for results. Mattieu test, is it tomorrow or Sun.? Absolutely it is true Sky 100% on the same wavelength......come onnnnnnnnnn Federer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

zoey234 , 5/29/09 11:53 PM

I know exactly whatcha mean ( I think , giggling Malteser1!) Makes sense that Federer will not space out the first set and will step on court READY. We'll see! I'm already so excited , my stomach is upset just thinking about the next match....Back in the day Malteser, 2006, 2007 would not even flinch a muscle and if he lost RG, oh well there was always Wimby. Now I'm on the edge of my literal seat and delighted at every success!!

Later Malteser.....keeping the faith here

zoey234 , 5/30/09 12:07 AM

malteser1 I ENJOY your posts "so much"!!! You are very funny as well as very intelligent!!! You have so much to offer us FEDfans, and the non FEDfans too! Although they might not be as willing to admit it. LOL Your are a SUPER fan, and not just for FEDERER but for all of tennis! Love to have made your acquaintance. May the FED move us "ALL" to the "HIGHER REALM" of PLEASURE (and REVELATION) about tennis. About what tennis is/AND CAN BE during this tournament!!! LOL FEDfans are here for a "GOOD TIME!" Go Roger FEDERER!! GO Monsieur EXTRAORDINAIRE! Go go, go... :)

Hi zoey I just read your post. I'm off to, but before I go, I just wanted to add it is so GREAT having you as a FEDfan! WE ARE ALL OBSESSED GIRL!!! LOL That is part of the fun of it all. Life is more fun with colours, not just black and white. CHEERS!!! :)

sky , 5/30/09 12:13 AM

Hello people, I didnt have the chance to watch the match because I am secluded on a rural area attending venezuelan amazonan indians where there is no tv. But I checked the match statistics and i didnt think it was a horrible match. Fed got a 70% first serve in, fired 11 aces and 75 winners against 45 unforced errors... That`s not really bad, in the other hand Acasuso also got a very high percentage in.
There is a reason why Federer has been able to get to semifinals on the last 19 grand slams and to the FINAL on 18 of them , wining 13 of those.... he solved that problem, of course he is going to suffer difficulties in the way to reach the final, obviously he might even loose, everything is possible, but if you had reach the semifinal or better on the last 19 events is not a coincidence, is not luck. It doesnt matter how you win, it matters that you win. I am guessing that he found himself uncomfortable, he found a wary acasuso that almost believe he could do the job, but at the end, the winner prevailed, Is just One match point that you have to win, and it was federer who did it, on the contrary to Novak who got three opportunities and didn't convert in Madrid. I dont believe in prediction, i dont believe in destiny, but I believe in determination and will. Federer is on a mission, he came back from a 1-5 deficit because he needed to take back control. And is even a good thing to face difficulties on the way to the final.
Not disrespect for Ricky or Cheryl, I appreciate the analysis but i don believe in their predictions, I believe in human will. Lets not forget that Federer is the only one of the top ten in a winning streak, the last one to win a tournament and the last one who bet RAFA on CLAY. I believe in him, i think that he has a different attitude before and after Madrid, he gained control over his serve which the main column of his game system, and he is highly motivated. Roger just focus on your game dont get distracted by anytingh else..
And to all Federers fans like sky, malteser, zoey, torres9 and the other whom i dont know. Dont get stuck on sterile debates about destiny and prediction. The future is not written, todays situation not necessarily predicts tomorrows events. Rafa and Federer are on a collision course, there are several disturbance on the way that may change the trajectory, the most important is Djokovic, and I sincerely believe that if Roger wants to win this tournament he has to face Djokovic on semifinals. If he doesnt it might be and easier way to get to the final, but he wont have the pre test to face Nadal. Even if its "dangerous", facing Nole may derive in two possible escenarios. He might loose.... Or he might win, beating the second ( for federer) most difficult player on the tournament, having a luxurius practice that not even rafa will get.. So the message to all Fed fans is, for Roger, getting to semifinals is not an achievement, he already knows how to do that, I wont get excited untill he gets to semifinals, and I hope That djokovic will wait for him there, so he`ll have the necesary selective pressure to build himself into a WINNING BEAST with the power no annihilate the other Titan NADAL. Like Roger himself says: Lets see what happens....

mdmch , 5/30/09 12:51 AM

mdmch some interesting points and fun to read, who could argue with "what will happne will happen". We are FEDfans! We're just having fun!!! LOL :) Go Roger go...

sky , 5/30/09 4:33 AM

"Lets see what happens... Yeah! Right "Lets see what happens" LOL

sky , 5/30/09 4:54 AM

It is a combination of things will, determination, belief, skill, and most of all a sense that something "WONDERFUL/MAGNIFICENT" is about to happen... WILL IT BE NOW!!! LOL Cheers FEDfans!

sky , 5/30/09 5:04 AM

mdmuch...i really enjoyed reading your post....thank you.

yeah...i know about predictions......no one can predict...but it is all part of the positive vibes we are sending fed as fedfans.....i admire him so much....and I feel that if I am nervous...it serves no good....so why be nervous? no point... what will be will be...right?

it never ceases to amaze me as a 'spectator' of the game, how nervous i get watching roger......and then I think to myself...well...he been doing this for 10 years now....has a sublime repertoire of shots and must have created the mental barrier to nervousness tenfold......having beaten nadal in madrid will have been a massive confidence booster for him and he takes that with him to the FO...

yeah...no doubt a scary moment in the second round, but your statistics proved that he actually did extremely well...it is just that when we put roger on this pedastal...and I hold my hands up and say, I expect better from him....i think perhaps that is unreasonable from perspective...I don't know? it is because I want him to win so much...apart from that.....the most important thing is that HE MUST WANT TO WIN MORE....MORE THAN ANYTHING....this is his tournament....it is not going to be easy....he knows that and as a fan, I have trust his knowledge in the game and his will to win as sky said earlier.

so on that basis.......GOOOOOOOOOOOO Ffeeeedddddddd Gooooooooooooooooooooo

Allleeezzzzzzzzzzzzzz.............Alllllllle eezzzzzzzzzzzz

malteser1 , 5/30/09 9:14 AM

maltosser, tennistalk should be forbidden for you, you need an urgent medical treatment, I feel pity for you, I'm wondering if you are of age, your parents should take care about your timing on this site, what else are you doing, except writing expose over and over again, starting to be such a boring and tiresome, go to Federina site and share your sick tongue with his fans, stop disturbing us with your absurdity, I have aversion on people like you, your tongue is longer than your brain, you're out of your wits, God help you...
Oh yeah, just to remind you, Arrogant one in final?!?!?! JUST IN YOUR DREAMS...

gordana , 5/30/09 2:16 PM

ha.ha.ha....Jesus Christ ... you make my day too gordana *rolling on floor laughing*

regards

Raindrops , 5/30/09 2:39 PM

Hi raindrops, just sit and wait, in less than few minutes, 'smarty' will attack again, an English patient, I mean professor, Mighty one, knows everything, just as same as her ExFed, be ready for long, long, never ending response, but I won't reply, cause I'm quite busy, learning English to be able confronting her 'excellent English knowledge', despite of fact, she's from Cyprus, but for God sake, she's living in UK., what an advantage, by the way Serbian maestro is due to his match, so no time for waste, regards for you raindrops, nice nick name..

gordana , 5/30/09 2:52 PM

mdmch

Very interesting post and i agree with what u said...that it's all about the fight in the player and there will win , however i dont agree with your statement that Federer is the only one out of the top ten on a winning streak.

Clearly Nadal and Nole have alo been very successful on clay this season if not more so. Nadal has won a few prestigious tournments on clay this season and Nole has reached the final in many of these key tournments.

TopDog , 5/30/09 2:54 PM

"""be ready for long, long, never ending response"""

haha you know her so well eh?

ok, I am awaiting also for Novak's match and hope he'll get an easy win today.

AJDE NOVAK !!!

Raindrops , 5/30/09 2:58 PM

"Lets not forget that Federer is the only one of the top ten in a winning streak, the last one to win a tournament and the last one who bet RAFA on CLAY."...
mdmch...strange things grows in amazonian forest...did you smoke some of this...
Yes...he got one win...after how long...US opes??? And we all know that he was so LUCKY...he won thanks to Nole...that wasn't Rafa in finale...it was shadow.
And instead to be greatfull for his luck...he is blobering and trashtalking how they (Rafa and Nole) take along time to serve... Even with Acasuso he was LUCKY...
So much about winning streak...
On court he is still great...but not BEST anymore...of court he is AROGANT, SELFLOVING and PROBLEMATIC character. That's it. He is ruining his image of gentleman player...which is very carefuly projected by swiss media...
Gordana...what can I add...nothing...you said it all...

zare , 5/30/09 3:02 PM

...I realy have nothing to do.....so ....I have counted the posts...
123...posts and 23 post from passionate exFed fan... almoust 20% ...

maltosser, I think it's time today your loving one leave the scene, but have to admit, he's got lucky again cause Haas is not so good player anymore, anyway, just to remind you, Arrogant one has very slim chance to get RG, hopefully he won't, by the way, I don't read your muck, it takes two hours, I don't have time to waste, and yeah, no chance for exfed...

gordana , 6/1/09 11:13 AM

tomnjerry2 , 6/1/09 11:30 AM

gordana , 6/1/09 1:45 PM

gordana...you D-I-S-G-U-ST me with your A-B-U-S-I-V-E insults and I D-E-S-P-I-S-E your lack of sportsmanship.....you are a D-I-S-G-R-A-CE to TT and to yourself....

Federer has been here before and he will dig deep because he has to....am absolutely shaking here but it is with nerves and excitement and I just know that one day federer gonna be named the GOAT....and you just have to keep believing in our man.....you just have to.....plzzzzzzzzzzzzz

malteser1 , 6/1/09 2:42 PM

Fedfans, just read through another thread not in detail but enough to read what low class, bargain basement jerks, just the ones to be expected. Why would I think different ?
Piss off! Sadists

zoey234 , 6/1/09 2:45 PM

Look, I don't consider myself high class, holier than anyone, high n mighty but can't celebrate a day when Nole exits out in a daze a idiotic performance in a slam and Rafa gets his famous arse flogged by Robin Hood.

Have the human decency to recognise when you are being flipping trash, sociopaths

zoey234 , 6/1/09 2:53 PM

Hi zoey234, 'nice words' from you, (sociopaths, sadists, bargain basement jerks and so on), classy behaveour, ask yourself and real sociopaths maltosser, she's doing idiotic things for a long time, and what to do I don't like Arrogant one at all, that's my opinion and none of you can change it...

gordana , 6/1/09 2:59 PM

Malty, this is tennis, I have a life beyond and my life does not hinge on the outcome of tennis matches but zero disrespect for Roger Federer is well it is...who knows what drives them their just pathetic!

zoey234 , 6/1/09 2:59 PM

Okay be a baboon and PROUD! Dream big ! Contribut nothing but hate moron

zoey234 , 6/1/09 3:05 PM

I am a Federer fan and tennis fan, play tennis (not great) have been through these moments.

Cmon CHAMP! You are the absolute best tennis has ever seen and your fans love you no matter what!

ALLLLEEEEEEZZZZZZZZ Rogerrrrrrrrrrr!!!

zoey234 , 6/1/09 3:12 PM

Very intellectualy from you, your post telling a lot about your background, cheers patient...

gordana , 6/1/09 3:16 PM

Malteser, Sky, fedfans, Roger is a Legend, he is amazing.

Tommy Haas is sounds like is revved up, souped up and seizing a once in a lifetime opportunity. Was it 2006 or 2007 AO Tommy Haas was thrashed.

C'mon Feddy!

Soderling was brilliant yesterday and broke the dam wide open

zoey234 , 6/1/09 3:21 PM

gordana...i have tried really really REALLY hard not to get personal with you..but there is only so much a human being can take.....Firstly...my name is Malteser...NOT Malt osser...tho' at first...that did make me laugh...now it's kinda boring......I guess tho' you could call me that if you said I had 'balls'. I do but NOT in the way that you mean......

I cannot help studying for a masters right now....not my fault...love studying...love life....

I wish no harm on anyone.....no one.

I am sorry that your 'dearest boy' LOST here at RG..am sure one day, if he doesn't retire, isn't sick, can get through a whole slam match and defend better...then one day he will win at RG...just not yet.

I cannot help it Gordana if you see me as being 'smart'. But I won't apologise for it.
It does say a lot about your background however.....where are you from? Russia? Serbia? Croatia? Belaruse? I hear that it is beautiful in the balkans? or are you from former yugoslavia and your hatred perhaps surpasses the really lovely person that you are? I don't know..

Are you lonely? tired? old? sick? because you do have a problem and you need to sort it out...and soon...otherwise you will lose friends and gain an 'unenviable reputation' for being a PRATT....

You seem to be using me as a target for your anger and your hatred...perhaps because you need to practice your English? I don't know..

You are a disgrace Gordana to your countrymen....wherever you are from and you need to stop this hate tirade...because we are all bored with you...(save for your supporters of your hate campaign).....especially me..

Whenever Novak loses your spout your venom like mount vesuvius...it's not pleasant, it's not nice.

Kindly STOP.

Alllezzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz Rooogggeeeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!

malteser1 , 6/1/09 3:27 PM

malosser, how are you today 'smarty one', your idol got lucky again, but tomorrow, who knows, Monfils is soooooooo hot, do you know what, I won't reply on your stupid insults, I've got used to it, as I said 1000 times, it's telling me a lot abut your background, but for your information, I'm Serbian 100%, and very proud of it, if you don't mind, so next time, be careful when you mention nationalities, it could be very sensitive subject not only for me, but for the others, who could find themselves insulted by your stupid statement: 'I hear that it is beautiful in the balkans!'' By the way, smarty, you should take care about orthography, as the smartest guy in the world, you SHOULD know, it's not balkans, but Balkan, it's not yugoslavia but Yugoslavia, if you're studying for a Masters, you should pay attention on many things, futhermore, I really don't give a penny about your Masters, and stop overvalue your so-called knowledge, over here, we're discussing about tennis, not about you, cause you're not in focus, you're not interesting at all, so be nice (if you can) and talk about your loving one in normal way, do not exaggerate all the time, I've had enough from your so-called eloquence and I really think you're eccentric.
And yeah, I have to practice my English with you?!?!?! It's not enough I do work with 10 British guys and 2 Americans, your 'knowledge' will help me for sure, kid stop arguing with me, cause you don't have a chance, go & get some milk before going to bed.
Just to repeat once again, I do have a hope, Monfils will repeat the same tennis (Andy Rodick) with Mr. 'Mighty'.
