Philipp Kohlschreiber looks to turn the tide for Germany against Sweden’s Andreas Vinciguerra Friday afternoon. Janko Tipsarevic faces Italian Francesco Piccari in reverse singles.
Philipp Kohlschreiber vs. Andreas Vinciguerra (Red Group decider)
Defending champion Sweden leads host nation Germany 1-0 heading into the final round of Red Group competition. Robin Soderling, continuing a solid run at the WTC this week, crushed veteran Rainer Schuettler 6-0, 6-0 in 46 minutes on Thursday.
World No. 31 Philipp Kohlschreiber is set for a first-time meeting with the 657th-ranked Andreas Vinciguerra in Friday’s reverse singles. The 25-year-old German has performed well at the WTC, collecting victories over American Robby Ginepri and world No. 9 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga of France. Vinciguerra lost his opening-round rubber to Tsonga 4-6, 6-3, 6-4. The 28-year-old Swede successfully regrouped in the tie with the United States, defeating Ginepri in straight sets, 7-5, 6-4.
Janko Tipsarevic vs. Francesco Piccari (Blue Group)
Janko Tipsarevic hopes to keep Serbia atop a highly-contested Blue Group Friday afternoon, taking to the court against unheralded Italian Francesco Piccari. Serbia trails Italy 0-1 after Andreas Seppi dismissed Viktor Troicki comfortably on Thursday 6-1, 6-4.
Tipsarevic fell to Argentine Juan Monaco in his debut match this week, 6-4, 7-6. The 24-year-old recovered nicely in his second singles outing, besting Russian Stanislas Vovk in two sets, 6-2, 6-4. Friday's reverse singles matchup marks the first clash between Tipsarevic and the 406th-ranked Piccari.
