Falling into the same half of the French Open draw as four-time champion Rafael Nadal has not helped the odds of Andy Murray's title chances at the clay-court Grand Slam.
Ladbrokes of London have eased the world No. 3 Scot's odds for the title to 16/1 (17.00), from 14/1 (15.00). Nadal is a prohibitive favorite to win a fifth straight Paris title at 4/11 (1.36), while Roger Federer has a 4/1 (5.00) chance of his first title at the major.
Fourth seed Novak Djokovic, runner-up to Nadal in two clay Masters 1000 finals over the past six weeks, is 5/1 (6.00) for the title.
"Murray has been handed a tricky opener and a potential showdown with Nadal in the semis. If he wins the competition he'll have done it the hard way," said a spokesman.

Hey...Gordana...how d'ya feel about fed WINNING THE MADRID MASTERS? Haven't heard from you for a while? Did you enjoy the match? Great news eh?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Go Rogerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
malteser1 , 5/22/09 9:43 PM
Your beloved Fed got lucky with jaded Rafa, don't be too confident in your gloating, be humble and keep your head down, something that your hero will never learn.
posmatrac , 5/22/09 10:16 PM
Malteser1, may I call you malty for short?
You get the next two weeks off to follow the tennis action? I am jealous.
I get the weekend off and Monday, a holiday here which is good as I am still not feeling completely right ...
One problem was the suffocating humidity, intense sun combined with the fact I don't tan properly. My pale freckled skin is burnt, peeling, blistered and insect bitten. Just when I was beginning to adjust we had to leave the jungle paradise but happy to be home safe in Ketchum. What a contrast in habitat!
Anyways... nuf about me. if Murray makes it to the semi final I will be fairly shocked. Can't quite pick him for the win this time. Next year Muzz.
C'mon Roger!!
zoey234 , 5/22/09 10:36 PM
Rafa will not be daunted by the draw, Roger will get his come uppance when he gets to the semi final to meet Djokovic. His qtr of the draw is easy peesy, so he'll not be match fit to play Djokovic. His run at Wimbledon was easy last year, did he go home with the title? errrrrrrrrrrrrrrr NO!
VAMOS RAFA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
carrie , 5/22/09 10:36 PM
Roger's draw in Wimbledon was much tougher than Nadal's.
The same applies to the last US Open draw. The Nadal side was probably the easiest path I've ever seen in a GS for a top seed. In fact, nobody thought he would lose to Murray.
Anyways, speaking of this tourney... I smell a Djoko vs.Nadal final.
Emiliano55 , 5/22/09 10:52 PM
I think it will be Rog vs Rafa, I have the feeling Fed, just won't bow to Novak at RG. I think Novak will, probably take him to four or five sets though, in the end I suspect Novak will be worn out like a flat tire. His fitness is amazing and yet, suck completely, I do not understand him, remotely. I still can't even figure out if I hate him or really like him either.
As for Murray, this poor guy will not even see Nadal. I look for him to fall quickly and painfully quick.
Recordbreaks , 5/23/09 1:55 AM
Peter Bodo from tennis.com:
"So my Final Four are: Nadal, Albert Montanes (who will ambush Murray). Djokovic, and Monfils or Mathieu (should Monfils pull out). Nadal and Djokovic will play the final, and the winner will be Nadal."
posmatrac , 5/23/09 2:12 AM
wow i made the same predictions as Peter Bodo for the semifinals. i picked someone else for the final tho :)
stu , 5/23/09 2:57 AM
LOL. So Monfils/Mathieu will take out Roger ?
Federer won't lose before the semis, that's for sure.
Emiliano55 , 5/23/09 3:04 AM
What EXACTLY is Peter Bodo thinking?
Monfils probably won't even play, and if he does, there is no way he does well. Mathieu? I'm not even going to get into how bad that pick is.
RickyDimon , 5/23/09 3:44 AM
Ramblings of a confused man. Poor Bodo.
My fantasy picks: Tomic and Gulbis in a romping 5 setter!
zoey234 , 5/23/09 4:11 AM
I think what is shocking about Bodo's picks is that he is usually so pro-fed and he doesn't even have fed reaching the SF!
fan4tennis , 5/23/09 4:14 AM
Gordana, take it easy:)Polako:)I would be happy to see Djoko-Rafa final, he is my countrymate, of course..But I am only realistic..If Fed plays his best now (3rd set aginst Roddick in Mad and 1st set against Rafa), he will beat Djoko in 4 or 5 tight sets...U will see... There will be minimum 2 tie-breaks in that match..And repeat: Rafa is a huge favorite to take the title, Ricky said 98%, I say 95%:))0
Marko , 5/23/09 5:37 AM
Marko, Paris dirt is the slowest clay and Fed will have to engage into long rallies, against Novak will be tough.
posmatrac , 5/23/09 5:49 AM
Posmatrac, I agree...But let's see...He will maybe play more serve/volley game than previous years...
Marko , 5/23/09 6:13 AM
I dont agree with emiliano. Nadal did not have any easier draw at wimbledon and neither at the us open. Murray and Djokovic are equally good on hard court, infact murray is better. PLus roger got a tired Dojo with the whole crowd not only backing fed but going AGAINST dojo. That did not even happen at Madrid Masters in rafa vs rog.
The crowd supported rafa, but didnt go against fed.
Plus. This is the easiest draw for fed that I have ever seen in a grand slam for any one player, forget about a top seed.
Secondly, Nadal was on his last last drops of fuel for the us open.
Fed got a qualifier in the quarters, are you insane or sth. Rafa got Fish , who is a pretty good hard court player. Nadal's semi final was without doubt tougher.
In the 4rth round Nadal got QUerrey and Fed got Andreev. Dont know how you were able to separate these two. Querrey is clearly a better hard court player.
ronaldinho , 5/23/09 10:08 AM
Lol @ ronaldinho...LMAO.
At USO Andreev ended up playing better than Querry and that qualifier you're talking about defeated Davydenko who was a semi finalist the year before.
Nadal's semi was tougher because he got beaten..its obvious.Had he won it-we wouldnt have been as much as talking about it.
All in all more whinning about how Fed gets 'lucky'.
janhavi , 5/23/09 11:06 AM
Hello gordana...
Ofcourse it will be very interesting to watch tennis in next two weeks. Nole finaly got that little touch of luck. Avoiding the "wall" named Nadal before finale will do so good for him. ExFed wont be the problem...if he reach the finale. But he will, no doubt with draw like that...even he is capable to beat (on clay) that poor Rodick. But for title...he'll wait for his borntown tournament. Now that will be something. Maybe this year he'll have opponent who is even capable to move his wheelchair...
One victory...and story goes again...all those months of terible play are forgoten...but those defeats are still there in his head.
Even in those days when he was unbeatable GOD of tennis...RG was out of his hands...
What on the Earth make some people here to think he has chance NOW?!?
C'mon be realistic...only question here is Rafa or Nole.
And I am afraid that Nole also has defeats in his head, but atleast I hope that he knows how near was it last time.
Rafa's play...what to say...wow... let me say that I think there are 3 groups of players today:
3. EVERYBODY...
2. Nole, Roger, Andy...(Andy...for this moment)
...then a lot of empty space...and...
1. RAFA
zare , 5/23/09 12:07 PM
..."ExFed wont be the problem...if he reach the finale."...
Oh silly me...SEMIFINALE...must be that malty's optimism is spreading all around...
Sorry....:-)

I smell a Fed VS Andy final
torres9 , 5/23/09 2:57 PM

torres ....andy ? i think its unlikely ...especially after his loss in the exhibition event......but you never know ....
fedexfan , 5/23/09 3:21 PM
Ha haha ...I agree with you torres...you smell!!!
zare , 5/23/09 3:54 PM
LOL smell but i think my nose is stuffed with swine flu

Hey...Gordana...how d'ya feel about fed WINNING THE MADRID MASTERS?
---------------------
The match was rigged. There was nothing to enjoy. Rafa just bounced the ball back to fall in the middle of Rog's half, being soft and bounicng great for him to score.

Slow down. Lupetash! Your country man is your business, but saying that "IF" Rog plays. his best..etc. is a ridiculous statement. Why didn't you never asked yourself, what "IF" Djoker plays his bets, can he defeat Nadal in the final?? Have you watched Djoko's matches on clay lately? And before that at all? Take Rog home!
Nobody's fool. Djoker proved in Rome, that he can let Rog be 1 set and two games ahead, yet Djoko is just good enough to win that match comfortably!! That's amazing, man. I truly hope that Djoker will face Rog i the semi (which I believe is 80% likeliy), just to give chance Djoker to shut down Rog once again in the GS.
As a Rog's fan you better prey for Rog to be ousetd before the FO semi. Otherwise, he would face a trumoil, man.

I don't need to pray for Fed....you need to pray that Novak sorts out his fitness for a five setter honey.....
I trust in the fed and that he will do everything he can possibly to win.....so am sending my positive thoughts..as for you? well....am not going to lower myself to your level......the only turmoil that Roger is gonna face is what colour shirt to wear in the final......

Bullish Nadal warns rivals
Reigning four-time champion Rafael Nadal has warned chief rivals Roger Federer, Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic he has been playing "almost perfect" tennis in the run-up to the French Open.
With both British number one Murray and Djokovic showing signs of improvement on clay and world number two Federer buoyant after beating Nadal in the final of the Madrid Open last week, the pretenders to the Spaniard's Roland Garros throne are queueing up.
But Nadal is supremely confident of continuing his flawless record at a grand-slam event he has made his own over the past few years. "I am very happy about my clay-court season, very happy," the Mallorcan said.
"Winning in Monte Carlo, Barcelona and Rome and reaching the final in Madrid makes it an almost perfect clay-court season.
"I am very happy with how I have been playing. And it's always a pleasure playing at Roland Garros - coming back here gives me a special sensation."
VAMOS RAFA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
carrie , 5/23/09 9:40 PM
mind games.....
Go Roggeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!
malteser1 , 5/23/09 11:20 PM
didn't Fed used the same "MIND GAME" last year when he said he's got something at the back of his racket to beat Rafa?..... the result--- just 4 games in 3 sets!
When nadal speaks , his tennis makes it happen!
agf25agf , 5/23/09 11:53 PM
oh just fast forward to the semis already!
