Robin Soderling dealt a knockout blow to Rainer Schuettler on Thursday, defeating the German 6-0, 6-0. Juan Martin Del Potro came through his Blue Group singles match with Igor Andreev.

Robin Soderling gave defending champion Sweden a 1-0 advantage in the WTC deciding Red Group tie Thursday afternoon. The Swede needed just 46 minutes to dismiss the veteran German 6-0, 6-0. Soderling turned in a solid performance throughout the day, securing six of nine break-point opportunities. Schuettler failed to offer any resistance, winning a dismal 10 points in the opening set and six points in the second. He ended the match in especially poor fashion, dropping 11 consecutive points. The Swede did not face a break point in the contest, holding all six of his service games. He completed the day snagging 83% of his first-serve points and 71% of his second.
Juan Martin Del Potro def. Igor Andreev 6-3, 7-6 (Blue Group)
World No. 5 Juan Martin Del Potro handed Argentina a 1-0 lead following his 6-3, 7-6 defeat of Russian Igor Andreev. The Argentine survived periods of uninspired play, surrendering serve twice in the match. Del Potro, successful for the second time in Blue Group singles competition this week, pocketed three of eight break-point chances on the day. The 20-year-old finished the day with half a dozen aces and six double-faults. Del Potro won 34 of 43 points on his first serve and 15 of 30 second-sere points. He extends his lead to 4-0 in the head-to-head series with Andreev.
