Instead, the former No. 1 now standing 50th faces the continuing distraction of an Australian lawsuit as his lawyers sue his former agents for alleged financial mismanagement.
The Australian media is having a field as as details of the player's finances are released in court documents, including a charge that he didn't even make one percent in interest on millions of dollars held on deposit in Virginia.
Hewitt's side says Octagon management wrongfully withheld up to a $1 million in monies due to him form various contracts and appearance fees from 1999 to 2006. The US firm claims alleged breach of contract when it began the legal proceedings.
Hewitt earned more than $10 million in winnings and endorsements during the period in question, with Octagon entitled to earnings and commissions ranging from 16 to 20 percent.
The Hewitt camp also says the Americans wrongly deducted more than $300,000 due to the player.
