Philipp Kohlschreiber rallies from a set down against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga on Wednesday. The German team moves on to a meeting with Sweden to decide the Red Group winner.
Philipp Kohlschreiber clawed his way out of a one-set hole Wednesday afternoon in reverse singles. The German battled for more than three-and-a-half hours to defeat world No. 9 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 6-7, 6-3, 6-3. Kohlschreiber recovered well after surrendering a 5-3 lead in the opening set. The German fought back, holding nine of 9 service games in sets two and three. The 25-year-old saved a trio of break points late in the match, securing two breaks of the Tsonga serve in the third set. Kohlschreiber finished the day a solid five of 11 on break-point opportunities.
Germany completed the 3-0 sweep of France with help from Rainer Schuettler, who took out world No. 7 Gilles Simon, and the doubles team of Nicolas Kiefer and Mischa Zverev.
The host nation is set for a deciding Red Group clash with defending champion Sweden. Sweden came through its tie with the United States, 2-1.
