Five-time champion Roger Federer will be watching with interest this weekend as Wimbledon tests the new Centre court movable roof with an exhibition featuring quartet of former greats led by Andre Agassi and Tim Henman.
While he has not seen the finished product at SW19 up close yet, the Swiss world No. 2 is keen to eventually play under the dome during this summer, as rain is almost a sure possibility in London.
"It's just good to have the option," he said of the roof. "We all hope that it's not going to rain... It won't now! But I think it's still going to work perfectly.
"All the players are excited to see how it's going to really work especially with the lighting as well and having 15-16,000 people in a stadium.
"It's a massive job and that's why, from my side, we appreciate it very much that Wimbledon has gone forwards and into innovation and tradition and mix those all together is really nice to see."

damn, i would like him to finally get that 14th GS this year at wimby! then he can do whatever he wants - go fishing, go bungee jumping...he certainly deserves that!

marzipan, I agree...
Even though he is not my fav player, his sheer tennis brilliance has to be appreciated. I, as a tennis fan, would feel he got cheated if he never broke Sampras' record...

Rain doesn't matter that much !
In fact,it helps the player to rest & take a break to play better after the rain stops !
Only centre court will be in this so-called benefit , not the neighbouring courts !
A real champion would never be discouraged by any rain.
Pete won 7 grands here,all without a roof,in the rain !

Finally! Long overdue! Of all the counties to be the last to put a roof for rainy weather. Tsk, tsk.
Zare, I bet you get proven right. Murphy's law.

Show must go on...it was sometimes frustrating to wait and wait for matches.
I bet this year it won't rain at all :-)
