  • Dreamer Philippoussis won't give up on tennis

    5/13/09 5:43 PM | Johan Lindahl
Dreamer Philippoussis won't give up on tennis More than two years after being stretchered off at his last ATP match on January 2, 2007, Mark Philippoussis refuses to totally give up on his tennis dream.

The 32-year-old is long gone from the circuit, a victim of a good-times lifestyle and not enough training time along with chronic knee problems which required multiple surgeries.

Now that he's back home in Melbourne, Philippoussis is wondering where the next stage of life takes him. During his heyday, he was always within range of the Miami party spots and later moved to Las Vegas.

"The reason I was living in America was because when I played tournaments it was easy to be based there. I could go from tournament to tournament and have a week off, but now that I'm not playing tournaments I just wanted to come home."

With his chances of returning at about nil, the two-time Grand Slam finalist still won't totally pack in his hopes.

"My ambition still is to get back on the tour," said Philippoussis, who has occasionally dabbled recently at the seniors level. "But it's been tough with my injury because I've unable to get fit enough to play competitive tennis."

In the meantime, he chose to go into the Melbourne real estate market just before the worldwide recession struck.
