Novak Djokovic crushes Viktor Troicki in an all-Serb showdown on Friday night in Belgrade. Djokovic will meet Andreas Seppi for a spot in the final.
Much to the delight of the Belgrade crowd, Novak Djokovic appears to be on his way to the inaugural Serbia Open title through two matches. Unfortunately for the fans, he is doing it at the expense of fellow Serbs. Two days after dispatching Janko Tipsarevic in three sets, Djokovic rolled over Viktor Troicki 6-3, 6-2 on Friday night. He needed just one hour and nine minutes to secure a spot in the semifinals against Andreas Seppi.
After a delay of more than half an hour, Djokovic came out flat. Not only did he lose serve in the opening game of the match, but he did so at love. For Troicki, however, that was the highlight of his night. It was all downhill from there for the underdog, who immediately gave the break right back. Djokovic broke once more for 3-2 and went on to serve out the set at 5-3, finishing it off with a clean forehand winner.
The world No. 3 completely dominated his opponent in set two and never came close to getting broken. He won 86 percent of his first-serve points and dropped a total of just six points in four service games. Troicki, who took one injury timeout for an apparent headache, struggled immensely on his own serve. Although the world No. 38 put in 74 percent of his first deliveries in the second frame of play, he lost more than half of his first-serve points. A routine hold at 5-2 finished off the proceedings for the tournament's No. 1 seed.
"I am delighted a capacity 7,900 crowd turned up for our match and I hope they will come back for the remainder of the tournament," Djokovic said.
Seppi, who ousted Marcos Daniel in straight sets, surely was hopping for a different outcome to the Djokovic-Troicki night-session clash. He is winless against Djokovic in four tries and defeated Troicki in their only encounter (which came in qualifying stages of Dubai two years ago). Seppi and Djokovic, however, have never faced each other on clay.
