Rafael Nadal will make his debut in Bangkok at the Sept. 26-Oct 4 event, completing a big 3 of Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic, who have also played the indoor Asian classic.
The king of clay and reigning Wimbledon and Australian Open champion will hope to join Federer as a champion after the Swiss won the title in 2004 and 2005 in his only appearances.
Djokovic began his struggling series with Jo-Wilfried Tsonga at the Impact Arena last year, losing the final to the powerful Frenchman.
Six-time Grand Slam winner Nadal will be joined in the field by Tsonga, defending his title.
The presence of the world No. 1 Spaniard can only help the event, which is in danger of faltering after the tennis demise of Thai Paradorn Srichaphan, Bangkok's major crowd-pleaser.

I wonder what amount took it for Rafa to be there!!!........I'm sure his appearance will still depend on the progress of the "outbreak" (virus) this coming months!

Yep. I wonder how much Federer and Nadal cost them.

whatever it is........it's worth it, specially if they're lucky to have a rafa-rog finals. They need to do some Feng Shui from now!

On another note: Is the appearance fee actually counted as official prize money? These tennis players sure do earn much more than listed in their official ATP prize earnings.

Srichaphan had more surgery on his wrist earlier this year. The doctors said he wouldn't be ready to play until 2010 but Paradorn himself said at the Thailand Open press conference last Thursday that he was doing everything he could to return at the Bangkok event this year.

Supposedly signed a 1 million dollar appearance fee contract that doesnt include the prize money which I think is around 608k USD. Should be a spectacle no matter where he goes.

Poor Paradon, he's such a nice guy too. Hope he recovers well and soon.

remi, he has been hitting balls again and has kept himself in excellent shape but it's now more than two years that he's been out of the game. Hopefully he will be able to make his comeback at the Thailand Open even if it is just to be his swansong.
