Gael Monfils might miss the remainer of the spring clay season as the inflammation which is affecting both of his knees keeps the Frenchman from tournament play.
The 2008 Roland Garros semifinalist will miss the Rome Masters starting Monday and the transplanted event in Madrid which ends just a week prior to the start of the French Open.
"It's possible that I will not play Roland Garros," Monfils told sports daily L'Equipe. French federation doctors fear the 22-year-old is suffering with a chronic inflammation problem.
After playing a clay final in Acapulco in February against Nicolas Almagro, Monfils then lost in the first round of Indian Wells, made the fourth round in Miami before running into Andy Roddick, and then crashed out last week in his opening match at Monte-Carlo to Janko Tipsarevic.
