Andy Murray is not shy about asking for advice from his specialist clay-court coaching hire Alex Corretja - even when the double Roland Garros finalist is involved with his television commentary duties.
The Spaniard said that Murray often comes around the TV compound for discussions. And those chats paid off well last week in Monte Carlo, with the Scot giving king of clay Rafael Nadal a solid match in their semifinal.
"I'm pleased that he feels I can help him not just on clay," said the Catalan, now in his second spring season with the rising No. 4. "We did something on clay last year, it did make a difference.
"But maybe the difference is also that afterwards you have something on your mind from what you talked about and if you keep on doing."
Corretja joins up with Murray's regular rotating coaching team, which often changes with the seasons. "I really feel that he can play very well on clay," said Corretja, a one-time world No. 2.
"When we practice, he's really focused. He really wants to improve his game."
