  • Djokovic destroys Hernandez in Monte-Carlo

Djokovic destroys Hernandez in Monte-Carlo Novak Djokovic opens his Masters Series Monte-Carlo campaign in dominant fashion, crushing Oscar Hernandez in straight sets on Tuesday afternoon.

Novak Djokovic did not fare too well in his first foray onto clay earlier this season, but he looked like a rejuvenated player on the surface in his first match at the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters. Djokovic, who went down to David Ferrer in straight sets in a Davis Cup singles rubber last month, eased past Oscar Hernandez 6-1, 6-2 in the Monte-Carlo opening round on Tuesday afternoon.

Granted, Hernandez is clearly not the same kind of opponent as Ferrer, but Djokovic simply took care of business throughout the quick one hour and 18 minutes. The world No. 3 broke for an immediate 2-0 lead in the first set, but he gave it right back for 2-1. However, that hiccup seemed to wake Djokovic up and he did not lose another game the rest of the way in set one.

Hernandez offered no more resistance during the second frame of play. The 31-year-old Spaniard managed to hold in his opening service game, but it was all downhill after that for the veteran. Djokovic, who broke serve three times in the first set, added two more breaks and he lost a mere three points in his last four service games.

After getting a first-round bye as one of the tournament's top eight seeds, the Serb will now get a day off before contesting his third-round match. Djokovic will take on either Albert Montanes or Jean-Rene Lisnard. Montanes outlasted 16th-seeded Nicolas Almagro in a third-set tiebreaker while Lisnard, who hails from Monaco and got a wildcard, rolled over Christophe Rochus.

Nice! That's how you start a tournament: with authority! Perhaps Novak is beginning to find his form?

most likely it will bring him negative attention, don't know why he did it.

Good match for Djokovic, just what he needed at the start of the clay court season, as in the end it was like a practice match for him.

The video is hilarious.....thanks zikili

Thanks Zikili - very funny indeed (and bold).
I agree with Posmatrac however: it can bring negative attention, and (somehow) be used against Novak in first given opportunity. Hope he doesn't care.
