Roger Federer will expect to buck the odds once his first child is born, with the Swiss sure to just to get on with his world-beating career even as a new father.
The calm Swiss is taking the big development this summer in his stride. "We're both relaxed, we're both happy and excited, and I think that's why it's going to work out", Federer said as he spoke for pregnant girlfriend Mirka.
"I haven't actually had fears that I was not going to be able to play tennis after having a child. That's never crossed my mind, to be honest".
For others, fatherhood has marked the beginning of the end on court. Since the ATP rankings began in 1973, nine fathers have lifted a Grand Slam title, with only Jimmy Connors (1983 US Open) and Pat Cash (Wimbledon 1987) taking the prize at the venues for Federer's best successes.
Croatian Ivan Ljubicic, 30, slid since the November birth if his son Leonardo, his ranking now 68th from a one-time No. 3. "Your life changes completely", he said. "Priorities are different. You're not the one in the family who's the most important. You kind of lose your wife for a while".
"But it's beautiful. It's a fantastic experience. When you walk out on that court and you see him, no matter what you do, it's a great day. It gives you that extra energy, and I'm sure Roger will be the same".

I agree with you fedexfan. Question though, do you know if Roger and Mirka are engaged yet? Why has he not married her since they've been together for so long, besides the obvious reason of course?
