Marat Safin takes out Oscar Hernandez on Friday afternoon at the Masters Series Miami. He is joined in the third round by Andy Roddick.
Andy Roddick d. Diego Junqueira 6-1, 6-1
The night session at the Masters Series Miami on Friday provided little drama. After Ana Ivanovic dominated her opener, Roddick needed only 56 minutes to destroy Junqueira. Roddick lost just eight points in seven service games and never faced a break point. The sixth-ranked American fired five aces to no double-faults while winning an incredible 96 percent of his first-serve points. A clay-court specialist, Junqueira wasn't even able to hang in with his opponent from the back of the court. Roddick jumped all over the Argentine's modest serve to get an upper hand in rallies, and he won more than 60 percent of the points even when Junqueira put in a first serve. Dmitry Tursunov, a three-set winner over Mikhail Kukushkin, will battle Roddick for a spot in the third round of 2009's second Masters Series event.
Marat Safin d. Oscar Hernandez 6-4, 2-6, 6-1
Safin made a winning start at what is presumably his final visit to the Sony Ericsson Open. The Russian, who maintains he is retiring at the end of the season, was extended to three sets by Hernandez but finished off the match in one hour and 49 minutes. Safin used one break of serve in the first set to take it 6-4, while saving three break points in the process. After going down an early break in set two, however, Safin seemed content to try his hand at a decisive third set. Showing little fight, he won just five points in four return games, throwing the set away to the tune of a 6-2 defeat. As it turned out, the two-time Grand Slam champion was, in fact, just gearing up for the third. Safin surged to a 4-0 advantage and dominated the set 6-1, securing a spot in a third-round showdown against Gael Monfils.

No comments here? I'm surprised. Safin v. Monfils should be worth watching.
