Roger Federer makes quick work of Kevin Kim in his opening match at the Sony Ericsson Open on Friday afternoon. Next up for Federer is Nicolas Kiefer.
Roger Federer defeated Kevin Kim 6-3, 6-2 in the second round of the Masters Series Miami on Friday afternoon. Federer needed just one hour and four minutes to set up a third-round encounter with No. 28 seed Nicolas Kiefer.
Kim, who qualified for the main draw and advanced a round when Michael Llodra retired with a groin injury, stayed on serve until 2-3 in the first set. That's when Federer started to get into a rhythm, and a single break for 4-2 was enough to eventually take the opening frame of play 6-3.
Kim's service percentage plummeted to a dismal 42 percent in the second set, and that resulted in two more breaks for Federer. The second-ranked Swiss also lost a mere five points in four service games, but still had to save two break points. For the match he saved all five of the break points he faced.
"I think it was a good match," Federer said afterward. "It was a great start to the tournament."
Next up for Federer is No. 28 seed Nicolas Kiefer, who saved one match point in the second set before ousting Fabrice Santoro in three. The two veterans have met on fourteen previous occasions and Federer leads the head-to-head series 11-3.

I target a final appearance for Federer unless Djoker up his game. I am sure Nadal and Murray will be in the other final. Here's for another exciting tournamet.

Even when the Djoker has his game left he got beaten by Roger (last years encounters except the AO) he got to thank the mono for his solo grand slam!
let's hope he finishs the whole match if he made it to the semifinal

Ok. guys, this is an article regarding the Federer's match yesterday, so be attached to that one, no need debating about Novak's possibilities and his SOLO grand slam, Murray don't have any, however, tennis experts talking about him as he's the best right now, after Nadal of course, so, keep commenting the news you're reading at the moment.
tennislover, if your nick-name is real, be stick to fair play and don't put negative comments about anyone, especially Novak, cause you don't have any credit to do so...
gordana , 3/28/09 1:04 PM
way to set the tone gordana ..hahah....
fedexfan , 3/28/09 1:30 PM
tennislover,
have to admit, poor attitude you have, it seems that some of Fed fans are getting really nervous.
posmatrac , 3/28/09 5:58 PM
good grief gordana. You know what is tragic? tragic is when or if Novak comes down with mono or has a close mentor die tragically in a car accident and then the general public ridicule him or severely mock him in the press. Heaven forbid anything like that happen to Novak and I am not one who would celebrate if he (Novak) met with such misfortune but I think if enough people incite the grudge against Roger Federer well.....well, do you really need to carry on? The other question I have after reading through this forum after a week is: What did the Swiss dude do to Nole? Is it all about the US open? I mean obviously I watch RF closely and I think at Wimby he was feeling better. I don't use illness per se as a reason Fed lost. I think knowing a little about mono informs me, not only about Roger but about Ancic and other top athletes who experience mono. Read Andy Murray straight from the transcript pre Miami, days ago. He explains it from a player perspective. He was frightened that his cold or flu might be mono and than go it wasn't. Give us a break already! I do not understand when reading these posts. But I would not have enough hate in me to jeer at Novak's losses, whether of a professional or personal nature. Sorry, I know I am now Zoast! Get agf quick tho I think there are a number of others here who could rip on me. Just excuse me cuz I do not know exactly where you have collected all the disrespect let alone hate. Zoey

I am not trying to stop the lively discussions. I have been thoroughly entertained mostly but after awhile, annoyed. I realize everyone has a right to their own opinion and to voice it even if it is as mindless sounding as Agf and his/her self-professed addiction to slamming Roger Federer. In general, and this is sick to admit, I find her/him/ whatever, refreshingly energetic, but my humor is admittedly twisted. If I gave you an example....no, I stop there. I have a twisted humor and a big heart...there, said enough! I like Nolie and did not think the bad press on him was called for at the US Open. I fancy Nole is bright and he likes to entertain, not having the crowd in full support can be a factor in a close match (sometimes, not always) . I'll tell ya somthing tho, in my opinion it would be good for Novak's popularity at the US Open to use his smile and sense of humor a bit more if his racket is a bit off.

this is way off topic, but looks like ana ivanovic is putting the move on nadal! from what i can hear, she spends a lot of time in mallorca, training, relaxing on the beach, eating at nadal's uncle restuarant. of course, her whereabouts could be completely innocent! well, tell you the truth, it could be just an interesting rumor that sparks curiosity from people like me or maybe, she just can't resist those spanish guys!
memi , 3/28/09 11:42 PM
Yeah Memi! That's what I'm talking about! A happy subject! Love to see more gossip about the players and it would be great for tennis in the USA! These guys and girls rock and I wish they were included in the entertainment news. Great for ticket sales here. That said, I did see Rafa and Ana in that cute video on the Sony Ericsson web. I thought, that's hot! Can you blame her? Fernando woo hooo!
zoey234 , 3/29/09 12:03 AM
RAFA and VErdasco are friends. Verdasco is ANA's BF. SO , you get the point. Rafa is happy with Xisca!
agf25agf , 3/29/09 12:12 AM
Rafa and who? I though Anna was dumped by 'Hollywood' Verdasco before AO. That was in the Aussie news
zoey234 , 3/29/09 12:23 AM
Sorry agf, somebody wrote me that Fernando and Ana are no longer an item...
I like to hear stuff like this too. Ana's a cute girl, but I think Rafa's current girl is cuter, and I should know since he's on my FB - ha!
Rafterfan , 3/29/09 12:23 AM
agf25agf, all in the name of humor, in all honesty, i can't see nadal and ana being an item, especially since like you said, ana and verdasco are a couple or were a couple and everybody knows nadal has his girlfriend. the video of ana and rafa playing golf is part of a sony ericsson promotion, rafa and serena played tennis on water last year in miami as part of a promotional campaign. that aside, ana probably can't help herself, nadal is irresistable!
memi , 3/29/09 12:33 AM
They look good together!
They can play on clay better than any of their peers.
They're both young.
They're both famous and attractive.
What are the odds?.......... I say Brad and Angie, eat your hearts out!
agf25agf , 3/29/09 12:52 AM
agf, it was reported many many times in various news articles since the beginning of the year that Ana and Nando broke up. That's old news. The last time pics were posted and Rafa and Ana were in the same frame together, rumors went wild again, only to find out she was dating Nando. Plus I doubt that Rafa would take Nando's leftovers. It was a promo shoot. Don't make it more than it was.
