Defending champion Nikolay Davydenko, still troubled by the foot injury which has compromised his season, won't play in the Miami Masters due to the continuing injury.
As a result, the Russian's fragile No. 5 ranking is in serious danger with his champion's points falling off the computer as the second Masters 1000 event of the 2009 season gets underway at Crandon Park on Wednesday.
Davydenko, 27, has played just four matches since January 1, last competing at Rotterdam more than a month ago where he went out in the second round.
The man who formerly played one of the toughest and longest schedules on the ATP has been suffering with the problem for several months, with a cure apparently as far away as ever. He also missed the Australian Open and the Indian Wells Masters.
