Andy Roddick won the doubles title at the Masters Series Indian Wells on Saturday evening, just hours after losing his singles semifinal to Rafael Nadal.
An in-form Andy Roddick fell to Rafael Nadal 6-4, 7-6(4) in the semifinals of the BNP Paribas Open on Saturday afternoon, but he bounced right back to capture the doubles title with fellow American Mardy Fish.
Roddick and Fish defeated Max Mirnyi and Andy Ram 3-6, 6-1, 14-12 (match tiebreaker). The crowd favorites saved three match points in the 'breaker before capitalizing on their second match point.
"I'd like to sit here and talk about my doubles prowess, but about 1-all in the second set, Mardy pretty much took over that match," Roddick explained. "In the 'breaker, I didn't do much to help us. I double-faulted twice, which was ridiculous. I'm just glad he was able to step up and be clutch."
"We were excited," added Fish. "We were fired up. It was an unbelievable atmosphere. Even those guys I'm sure had fun. It was a great match."
This is the fourth doubles title of Roddick's career. For Fish, who owns five doubles titles, this is his second doubles crown in as many months. He prevailed in Memphis four weeks ago with doubles specialist Mark Knowles.
Perhaps this will help Fish deal with what will surely be a blow to his singles ranking. The 2008 Indian Wells runner-up lost his first match this time around against Jeremy Chardy.

They both have enough hard court practise so I hardly doubt they will play dubs in miami.

Hi Memi: good morning to ya from my snowy part of the planet. I had to read through the news and the fan comments to get caught up. Now countdown to what I hope is a great IW Final. I will not be able to watch it live due to basketball mania. Gee, why doesn't the cable company consult me first? But the lack of tennis enthusiasts 'round here seems balanced out by the ardent fans where you are. This is a lively group! Shameless, fabulous and unafraid to display emotions and not shy about opion, biased or otherwise; makes good reading and so on...

22 teams are entered into the doubles so far in Miami, and Roddick/Fish isn't one of them
deadline, however, is not until Monday

A-Rod is the man! Giving credit to Fish and forever gracious, funny, just and all around likable regular tennis star.
Orion: I hope you are wrong but suspect you're right. (re: Miami and doubles action)

To win the doubles title a mere hour after suffering a difficult defeat in the semifinal shows again what great character and determination Andy Roddick has. He is a champion thru and thru. Congrats to andy and mardy!
