Nikolay Davydenko still hasn't recovered from a left heel injury and it forced him out of the Masters Series Indian Wells on Friday.
World No. 5 Nikolay Davydenko pulled out of the Masters Series Indian Wells on Friday night with a lingering left heel injury. He was immediately replaced in the draw by lucky loser Olivier Patience.
Davydenko has played just two tournaments and thee matches so far in 2009. The Russian participated in the season-opening event in Chennai and handily won his first-round clash before withdrawing. He returned a month later--after missing the Australian Open--and lost in the Rotterdam second round.
Patience went straight into the second round, as Davydenko--like all 32 seeds at the BNP Paribas Open--had a first-round bye. The Frenchman, however, fell to Philipp Kohlschreiber on Saturday afternoon.
Davydenko definitely wants to ready for the Masters Series Miami, which begins in 10 days. As the defending champion, he has a daunting amount of ranking points to defend.
