Martin Vassallo Arguello has been picked to take the spot on Argentina's Davis Cup team vacated by David Nalbandian. For France, Michael Llodra replaces Gael Monfils.
Martin Vassallo Arguello was added to Argentina's Davis Cup team on Wednesday, replacing David Nalbandian. First-year Argentine captain Modesto Vazquez announced the move on Wednesday.
Nalbandian, who was the No. 1 seed at last week's ATP 500 event in Acapulco and lost in the first round, pulled out of this weekend's Davis Cup tie against the Netherlands earlier this week. Vassallo Arguello, meanwhile, enjoyed a surprising run to the Acapulco semifinals. He now registers at a career-high ranking of 50th in the world.
Vassallo Arguello is schedule to play the doubles rubber alongside Lucas Arnold Ker. Juan Monaco and Juan Ignacio Chela are currently in the singles spots for Argentina.
France also made a recent substitution for its tie against the Czech Republic, with Michael Llodra filling in for Acapulco runner-up Gael Monfils. The move should not hurt a loaded French team that already has top players Gilles Simon and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the singles spots. Llodra, a formidable doubles player, is scheduled to pair up with Richard Gasquet on Saturday.
