Rumors of a possible partnership between Roger Federer and Darren Cahill continue to pick up steam as practice sessions have been ongoing in Dubai.
It looks like Roger Federer is finally on the verge of hiring a coach.
Federer has been training with Cahill in Dubai while the world No. 2 rests a lingering back injury, according to Federer's agent. However, for the moment it is just a trial period and no signed agreement has been made.
The Swiss also worked on an interim basis with Tony Roche, mostly for clay-court help, but they parted in 2007. Federer has not had a full-time coach since splitting with Peter Lundgren six years ago.
Cahill has already mentored two previous world No. 1 players, Lleyton Hewitt and Andre Agassi. While commentating for ESPN earlier this year at the Australian Open, both Cahill and Patrick McEnroe suggested Federer needed a coach after the 13-time Grand Slam champion went down to Rafael Nadal in the final.

I'm quite happy.Certainly this disproves the theory ( yet again) that Roger isnt willing to make changes and all that.He certainly seems to exploring his options.

Killer would be an excellent coach for Roger. Much better choice than Jose. I hope it happens, and can't wait to see what the two of them cook up!

Killer's my man BUT this is just a trial basis right now. Apparently Fed said that the possibility to work together came up in the last few weeks & Fed didn't want to let the opportunity pass him by. Fingers crossed!

When Cahill said I hope he knew exactly what he meant coz he should hav seen certain areas where he can help fed. out in his game....
And if that is the case then we can see a lot of Cmmon,,,, 4rm the SWis again,,,,....

let the coaching begin! this way we will all know whether federer's struggles have to do with tactics or mentality.

^^everyone knows its a bit of both...* rolls eyes*

im interested in how fed/cahill is going to work out.
but i think this is a good first step for fed if he ever wants to regain the no.1 ranking...but i think it is all about his mental block against a certain Spaniard.
lets see how fed plays in IW and Miami.

RF prob. doesn't feel the same as I do, but I could care less if he regains #1. I just want him to win two more majors!

I want that Fedex should hire Cahill and I just wish this relationship sends some smoke signals for the opposition!

I dont know if Roger will hire Cahill as his full -time coach. It seems its going to be similar to the kind of thing he had with Roche where there was no contract signed.

About time. Maybe Cahill can give Fed a new thinking process/routine to work on. IMO, thats the most important thing he needs against Nadal.

record shows that cahill is an excellent coach, but teaching strategy/tactic is one thing and restructuring the thinking process is another. i'm sure other coaches who have worked with roger have probably tried to change his pattern of thinking especally against nadal, and i'm sure cahill can/will present some things for roger to try along those lines, but in my mind, an actual change in thinking comes from within! we will see!
