Andy Murray has pulled out of Britain's Davis Cup tie this weekend, as the illness that ousted him from The Barclays Tennis Championships in Dubai has not improved.
Britain No. 1 and world No. 4 Andy Murray pulled out of his country's upcoming Davis Cup tie against the Ukraine on Monday. Murray has not been able to overcome a virus in the four days since pulling out of the ATP 500 event in Dubai with the same problem.
"I hoped that pulling out of Dubai when I did would give me enough time to recover, but this virus has hit me harder than any illness I've had before and I still feel terrible," Murray explained. After winning two matches last week, Murray was unable to play his quarterfinal match against Richard Gasquet, who got a free pass to the semis before falling to David Ferrer.
"Obviously, I'm very disappointed that I won't be playing in Glasgow this week, but the doctor has told me that I need complete rest for at least seven days, and I have to respect that," he added.
It's a crushing blow for Britain, which is in the Europe/Africa zone of the Davis Cup and fighting to regain World Group status. Captain John Lloyd, however, remains confident.
"We have five players up here who are desperate to play and they have all impressed me in the last week," Lloyd insisted. "With the support of a vocal home crowd I firmly believe that this is a very winnable match for us."
Lloyd has not yet named a replacement for Murray. The team currently consists of Ross Hutchins, Joshua Goodall, and James Ward. Sergiy Stakhovsky, who took Murray to three sets in the Dubai first round, headlines the Ukrainian squad.

^^ yes, even I read somewhere that Murray. has a mild case of mono. Its really a pity.I really hope he gets well soon.I guess too much of travelling takes its toll.

Yup, janhavi, frequent traveling definitely takes its toll.
Forget about the distance they travel, the physical and mental wear and tear, the weather and temperature difference in itself is enough to make anyone sick (i.e. Australia weather vs Dubai weather.)
I hope he gets well soon.
Hopefully, his absence will inspire his team mates to step up to the plate and shoulder responsibility for the team and its success (or failure). They should definitely view this as another opportunity to make a name for themselves (just look at Verdasco.) There are already some frustrated Brits out there who are not too happy with Murray's medical leave...
