Third seed Tommy Robredo secured a berth in the finals of the Copa Telmex, defeating fifth seed Jose Acasuso in the semifinals on Saturday.
The Spaniard and the Argentine met for the third time in a semifinal match on the South American clay Saturday afternoon. The two split the two previous semifinal matches- Acasuso posting a three-sets victory in Vina del Mar, Robredo avenging the loss at the Brasil Open a week later, 6-1, 6-2.
Robredo rallied from 1-4 down in the first set, eventually snagging the set after a four-game winning run. The veteran Spaniard, behind 82% on first serves, saved nine of 10 break points during the two-hour semifinal match. An erratic Acasuso missed opportunities throughout the contest, striking 57 unforced errors and failing to capitalize on five break chances at 1-2 in the second set. The World No. 17 leads 5-3 in the head to head series. The former World No. 5, a winner in Costa do Sauipe last week, reaches his second consecutive tournament final of 2009.
Robredo will look to notch his ninth career title on Sunday; he faces Argentine Juan Monaco in the final. Monaco scored an upset win over defending champion and compatriot David Nalbandian in the second semi Saturday afternoon.
