Tennis Australia will welcome prodigal son Pat Cash back into the family once again, offering the 1987 Wimbledon winner the chance to work as a part-time coach.
With the former tennis powerhouse now without a man in the Top 100 and scratching for development, all stops are out to reverse the decline.
The outspoken London-based Cash admired he was surprised after having his difference with Australia's tennis bureaucracy repeatedly in the past.
The 43-year-old will work with coaches and players from his UK base, signing on for a modest 10 weeks per year. He has indicated an interest in helping the newest generation of 13-to-16-year-olds.
"I think they've realized they need to get some guys on board," Cash told Melbourne media. "They haven't got a lot (of coaches) in Europe, so we're just trying to work out dates and what I can do.
"I'm a big believer in working together. Me coming in and putting a Band-Aid on a bullet hole is not going to work, so we've got to work together over a long period, and the encouraging thing is that they were interested."
One of the perks Cash brings to the job is membership in the All-England club, a handy venue for putting some of his more promising charges through their paces.
