Marin Cilic defeats Viktor Troicki in the semifinals of the PBZ Zagreb Indoors on Saturday afternoon. Cilic has not lost a set en route to the final, where he will play Mario Ancic or Jan Hernych.
Marin Cilic ousted Viktor Troicki 6-2, 7-5 in the Zagreb semifinals on Saturday afternoon in front of his hometown fans. The Croat needed one hour and 25 minutes to secure a spot in his second ATP final of the season. Cilic won a title in the opening week of the year at the Chennai Open in India.
The Zagreb No. 2 seed has been the favorite all week to win a second trophy (third of his career), and that certainly won't change after his performance against Troicki. Cilic put in just 42 percent of his first serves in the opening set, but he still lost a mere three points in four service games. Two breaks of Troicki were more than enough for the 6'6'' 20-year-old to dominate the first set 6-2.
Troicki did a better job of taking care of his own serve in the second, but he continued to be hopeless against his opponent's serve. The 6'4'' Serb ran into some trouble at 4-4, but saved a break point to stay on serve for 5-4. Troicki, however, was not so fortunate and 5-5 and Cilic's third break of the match gave the fan favorite a chance to serve out the match. Cilic, who lost a ridiculously impressive four points in six service games of the second set, closed the proceedings out in style, 7-5.
Cilic awaits wither Jan Hernych or fellow Croat Mario Ancic in Sunday's title match. He has never faced either player.
