Rik De Voest def Ivan Navarro 6-3, 6-4

With the home-town crowd behind him, South Africa’s De Voest eased past Spanish clay-courter Ivan Navarro. De Voest was in complete control of the first set. He did not face a break point as he took the first set with a comfortable 6-3 scoreline. The second set was not quite as clean for the South African. He was broken once by Navarro, but he broke the Spaniard twice to close out the match in straight sets. De Voest will play the winner of Frederico Gil and Daniel Koellerer in the second round.

    Guillermo Garcia-Lopez def. Bjorn Phau 6-4, 6-3

Spaniard Guillermo Garcia-Lopez dispatched Bjorn Phau of Germany in straight sets on Monday. The first set passed in a flurry of service breaks. Garcia-Lopez was broken twice, but he managed to break Phau three times to seal the set and take the lead in the match. The second set was tighter; Phau staved off five of six break points, but he was unable to secure a break of Garcia-Lopez’s serve. The Spaniard will take on Argentina’s Leonardo Mayer in the second round.
