Solid field hits the clay in Viña del Mar As the tennis world recovers from the drama and excitement of the Australian Open, the 17th edition of the Movistar Open kicks off Monday in Viña del Mar, Chile.

Hometown hero Fernando Gonzalez, alongside Tommy Robredo of Spain, leads a solid cast of characters ready to take to the South American clay.

Number one seed Gonzalez, a champion in 2002, 2004 and 2008, looks to capture title number four. Veteran Spainard Robredo, the second seed, makes his return to the Movistar Open for the first time since 2001.

A trio of solid Argentine seeds in Jose Acacuso, the tournament winner in 2006, Augustin Calleri, and last year’s finalist, Juan Monaco, are scheduled for action this week. Countryman Eduardo Schwank, plus Spaniards Oscar Hernandez and Albert Montanes, complete the list of the top eight entrants.

In addition, fans will be keeping an eye on Viña native Nicolas Massu. The Chilean, an 11-time competitor and two-time finalist at the Movistar Open, is set to battle seventh-seeded Calleri in the opening round.
