Even Mark Philippoussis may have a chance as Australia shifts into desperation mode for the March Davis Cup date against Thailand.
With Lleyton Hewitt at 71st the only man ranked in the Top 100, times are tough for the 28-time Davis champion nation.
Captain John Fitzgerald has conceded that "anyone who has an Aussie passport" - including Philippoussis, who has not played on the ATP in two years - could be in with a chance of making the team.
While he does have other choices including teenaged up-and-comer Bernard Tomic, Fitzy would even entertain a possible Philippoussis call-up.
"It'll be interesting to see what he does," admitted the skipper. "I always wish him well, he played such an important role in that 2003 final we won.
"The door's never closed to anyone who has an Aussie passport and wants to play for us," he told local media.
Hewitt, who lifted the Wimbledon and US Open crowns during his heyday at the turn of the century, was the last Australian to win an ATP event, at Las Vegas nearly two years ago.
Former tennis ace John Alexander, a television commentator during the upcoming Open, labeled the Aussie game at "our lowest point."
"We're getting close to the end of the road unless we can turn it around", Alexander warned.
