Disappointed Rod Laver has advised Australian tennis to start searching the outback as well as the cities to discover a next generation of tennis talent.
As Lleyton Hewitt on the downward slope in his career and few in the pipeline to replace the former No. 1, it's starting to look like panic stations at Tennis Australia, with only Hewitt at 74 ranked inside in the Top 100.
Laver, the last man to win the calendar year Grand Slam in 1969, says that officials are not casting their talent-search nets wide enough. He adds tht many of the country's past stars have come from the bush - or at least country towns.
"Patrick Rafter was from Mt Isa, Roy Emerson was from Blackbutt, Tony Roche is from Tarcutta", said Laver. "There's a lot of great players that came from areas where you say 'well, how can that be?'
and so I think that's where a lot of the talent lies".

and then he and other pro's was banned from participating in Grand Slam events for 4 or 5 years, when he was at his prime, what a pity.
He would have had a huge amount of Grand Slam titles otherwise.
