There's no rest for the elite tennis players nowadays. As soon as the globetrotting ends, the fitness and strength work takes over in a bid to gain that crucial edge over rivals.
Marin Cilic is no exception to the rule; Croatia's No. 1 has put in the hard yards over the past two months and already he's reaping the rewards having claimed the title in Chennai on Sunday.
"I'm glad that the work has paid off so fast," said Cilic. "I'm feeling well even if today wasn't my best performance during the week. But I played well at crucial moments, which is the most important thing.
"I always enjoy coming back to Chennai," he said. "This was already my third time here and I always enjoy the passion of the crowd. Today it was a bit different of course since they supported Somdev and I'm glad that I managed to win in two sets. Somdev has been impressive this week and if he continues playing like this he can be in the Top 100 by the end of the year."
Cilic may have won the title but Somdev Devvarman really was the star of the week, capturing the imagination of the Chennai crowd. Many thought he would be hopelessly outclassed by Cilic in their final, but there was actually very little in it and he made the third seed work very hard to claim his second career title, fighting back from 2-5 down in set two.
"This was a great week for me and I hope to play more tour events in the upcoming months," he said. "It is my goal to move up further in the rankings and to become a better player. I'm now looking forward to playing the qualifying in Melbourne and hope to play well there."
