Only hours after a first-round upset in Brisbane, Australian Open champion Novak Djokovic confirmed he was heading to Sydney for emergency work on his game at next week's Medibank International.
The world No. 3 was granted a late wildcard into the men's and women's event which starts on Sunday after he crashed out to 6-4, 6-4 to former academy stablemate Ernests Gulbis.
It will be the Serb's first visit to the harbour city. "I’m very grateful to receive the wildcard to Sydney," Djokovic said. "It was disappointing to lose in Brisbane but I now have another chance for more high quality matches in Sydney.
"I've heard a lot about the tournament and I am looking forward to playing there."
Djokovic will come in as top seed in the men’s draw in a field which also includes 2008 Melbourne finalist Jo-Wilfried Tsonga of France and sixth-ranked compatriot Gilles Simon, Argentine David Nalbandian and four-time Sydney champion Lleyton Hewitt.

I think that Nole only had a bad day. He served very bad. I hope that it would get better in Sydney and in AO. Good luck Nole!!!

I like Nole's game, but he seems to have lost his way abit. I hope he can pull it together as he is a good player when he is on his game.

Go Nole, I thought you actually played well against Gulbis, bar the wretched serve...
I'm sure it'll all come together for you at AO and you'll keep you crown!
