Lleyton Hewitt remains buoyed by his fast-track return from August hip surgery, confirmed by his Hopman Cup group win over Nicolas Kiefer.
Though Australia, with Casey Dellacqua, lost the tie, Hewitt remains enthusiastic about his chances of a strong comeback to the sport.
"It's pretty good," said the No. 67 played in the world. "This was a fair test for the hip.
"It was close to three hours out there and there weren't too many average points either. It's good to be back. It's been a long time out, close to five months since I've played a match."
He added, "I've been hanging for this match for a long time. It's a great way to start the year."
With his career on the line last season, the 27-year-old said that undergoing the operation was his only realistic option. "It takes a lot of courage to come back from surgery and to come back. It's a good start."
