Andy Murray's mother and first coach Judy likes what she sees in her youngest son as the world No. 4 begins the 2009 season next week with an exhibition in Abu Dhabi.
For Murray Mum nothing could have been more beneficial for her boy than splitting with American Brad Gilbert and taking on board an all-British team of revolving coaches, physios, dieticians and fitness specialists.
"Miles MacLagan, Jez Green, Matt Little and Andy Ireland not only bring their expertise in coaching, fitness and physiotherapy, they also combine to create a positive team spirit and a fun training and travelling environment which has helped Andy to be much more relaxed on and off the court", Judy Murray said in the Daily Telegraph.
"The decision to travel with a fitness trainer every week and a physio at all of the Masters Series events and Slams proved a sound investment", she added. "Being physically stronger helps you to be mentally tougher in the long rallies and in the long matches".
Judy Murray revealed that during the team's month-long December fitness camp in steamy Miami, the boys competed in a sort of "mini-Olympics": to keep motivation high.
"It involved about 10 disciplines, from running on the track, lifting weights in the gym, go-karting and swimming. It was their way of staying competitive in the off-season".
"There have been serious bragging rights at stake: Andy won the high jump event with an interesting headfirst technique".
