Pakistan's top player Aisam-ul Qureshi will miss next month's Chennai Open after being caught by a new Indian visa regulation for Pakistani nationals.
Following the Mumbai terrorist attacks, new rules were issued which means Pakistanis have to wait a month before they can receive a new visa.
Qureshi didn't apply in time and the Indian high commission insisted that normal procedures would have to apply.
“The Indian high commission didn’t refuse me a visa but they told me they can’t issue it before a month,” Qureshi said.
Its a blow for Qureshi, the world No. 298 who was hoping to use it as a warm-up ahead of the Australian Open.
Wild cards for Chennai have been awarded to India's top two players, Somdev Devvarman and Prakash Amritraj (pictured), as well as Lukas Dlouhy of the Czech Republic. Dlouhy plays doubles with Indian star Leander Paes, hence the wild card.
