Lundgren looking forward to new role Former coach Peter Lundgren will take on a new role next January, working at a tennis academy in Paris. Lundgren spoke about a variety of tennis topics earlier this week.

Former big-name player coach Peter Lundgren will begin work at a Paris tennis academy in January. The Swede previously coached Roger Federer, Marat Safin, and Marcos Baghdatis. Lundgren also served as head man of the British Davis Cup team for a brief stint, but he ended that due to is father's declining health.

Now, however, Lundgren is looking forward to expanding his role from coaching just one player to working with a lot of future talents. "I'm tired of working with just one player at a time," he explained. "I'll start work (at the academy) in January and my ambition is to find young, interesting players for the future. My first task will be to go to Australia in January and check some names out."

Lundgren will not rule out a return to coaching on the ATP Tour, but he is ready for a change. "I'm not saying I will never go back to the Tour but I need some stability in my life and they offered me a three year contract so I took it," he said. "As a coach you're very vulnerable and totally in the in the hands of your player. There is no security and I've grown tired of that."

Lundgren also touched on the widely-discussed subject of his former pupil Safin in an interview with Eurosport Yahoo! "I think he has made the right decision (not to retire)," Lundgren said of the Russian, whom he led to the 2005 Australian Open title. "Marat is still a world class player who has a lot more to give. The Tour needs him in more than one way. His personality is rare in a very positive way and on the court he can be a true artist if he is in a good mood. And it can be a disaster If he is in a bad mood. Nobody knows how to judge Marat Safin in advance. That's the beauty of him. It would have been sad if he had quit playing now. I'm happy he is still around."
