Serbs are celebrating a 2008 tennis hat-trick, with Novak Djokovic leading the way with his Masters Cup title in Shanghai.
Djokovic's latest title was followed by the new world No. 1 doubles status of compatriot Nenad Zimonjic, who claimed that honor as he lifted the team crown with Canadian Daniel Nestor. In addition, Jelena Jankovic stands year-end No. 1 on the WTA.
Headlines in the local press in the wake of the Shanghai success read: "Serbia's pride," "Serbian Shanghai," and "Best in the world." Serbs lifted a total of 17 titles for the season including six in doubles for Zimonjic and four for Djokovic.
"There's been so much going on for Serbian tennis lately that it's just incredible to describe how could we do it in such a small period of the time, with so many successful players in both the WTA and ATP Tour," said Djokovic after beating Nikolay Davydenko for the year-end title in China.
"I'm so happy to represent my country in a good way. Being a professional tennis player and being successful in it makes you a good ambassador for your country."

Wow. Serbians are so patriotic. I'm kind of jealous.
Hats off to Djokovic for winning the Masters Cup. I'm happy for him though disappointed for Federer. Maybe next year. Anyways Djokovic needed this, it looked like he burnt out after the U.S. Open.
