British bookmakers are high on optimism after the superb season of local hero Andy Murray.
The odds now stand at 11/8 (2.38) for the Scot to break the British drought of Grand Slam men's singles titles stretching back three-quarters of a century.
Ladbrokes of London tips the 21-year-old world No. 4 as favored to win a major soon despite going out in the semifinals last weekend at the Masters Cup in Shanghai to Russian Nikolay Davydenko.
Ladbrokes is offering 7/2 (4.50) that Murray wins the Australian Open during his career, 20/1 (21.00) that he wins the French, 5/1 (6.00) that he wins Wimbledon and 4/1 (5.00) that he goes one better than he did at the U.S. Open this year, where he lost the final to Federer.

He got really close at the U.S. Open. I was a little disappointed for him, but I'm so happy that Federer one.
I'm sure he'll win a Grandslam as long as he doesn't end up in the same draw as Davydenko. I think Davydenko has analyzed him really well. I think he just needs to get a bit more use to the big stage. Players like Nadal and Federer are far more used to doing it.

was of course glad when Roger won USO...he's just..no words to describe him..i just know he's the best for me..but among the current top 5 Murray is a second fav for me..like his variety..like his tactics..so would be good for him to get a slam.

Thanks very much. I feel welcome already.
I think you can kind of see disappointment in Murray's face in that picture. I wish I'd seen the final at the U.S. open. It kills me that I am only twenty minutes away from the action each year.

You are a lucky one.

he has a very good chance of winning a grand slam next year (aus open or us open), but that is only if he plays the way he did during us open and madrid. hopefully he will win a slam next year.
would be great if rafa, fed, djoko and murray each win a grand slam next year- perfect, 1 slam each for the top 4 players. :)
