Roger Federer is targeting a return to his No.1 position as job 1 for 2009 along with equaling and hopefully surpassing the 14 Grand Slam titles held by Pete Sampras.
The Swiss is ending his year on Kuala Lumpur and Macao with a pair of exhibitions nights this week also featuring James Blake, Björn Borg and John McEnroe. "My target is to regain the No 1 ranking and win more Grand Slam titles than Sampras," said Federer.
And Federer knows he has to get out of the blocks fast in 2009, where he plays his first ATP event at Doha before the Australian Open.
"I need to get things in order right from the Australian Open, a great start would boost my confidence but it will be a tough tournament with the other guys also trying to do the same."
Federer lost his No. 1 status to Rafael Nadal over the summer. "I need to take a good rest and plan things for next year. I need to prepare well and I know I can get better," added Federer.
