  • Djokovic Serbian ATP tournament on the road to reality

    11/17/08 9:36 AM | Johan Lindahl
Djokovic Serbian ATP tournament on the road to reality Novak Djokovic is within a few rubber stamps of becoming owner of his own event on the ATP, with official permission to insert the Belgrade Open into the calendar all but complete.

The Serb's family bought the license of a cash-strapped Dutch event and are hoping to place it into a May opening during the clay court season.

The ATP board gave its blessing - with a few loose ends such as actual date and prize money still to be tied up - during meetings at the Masters Cup in Shanghai. Now, Serbian tennis officials are set to do the same with final approval expected by the end of this year.

Serbians are expected to pack the new $326,000 tournament with the country's current dominance in the game on both the men's and women's side.

I am so happy for Serbia. Their tennis players both men and women are doing so well and amongst the best in the world right now - this will be just great for the fans.

homos, thank you very much indeed, you're among the people who're so nice and fair, I really do appreciate your support to Novak, cheers

Novak worked hard for everything he's got today. AT young age, he already established himself as a major force in tennis alongside Rafa and Roger. He opened the year with a grand slam win and ended 2008 with the Masters Cup. He's almost equal to Federer in points, so he's not far from overtaking the Swiss in ranking.
Good luck Novak!!!!!!!!!

a well-deserved victory like i mentioned previously..Novak definitely answered all doubts if at all there were any during the past couple of months..a fantastic way to bounce back.

Still no news about winner of Shangai tournament, this site is so unprofessional, if winner was any other player beside Novak, news would be all over site.

Go go Nole !!

3cpo , 11/17/08 2:56 PM

3cpo, you're completely right, if Arrogant one won, we wouldn't be able to survive, but never mind, all of them know exactly who is the CHAMPION, NOVAK OF COURSE, and he doesn't need their support, cause he has all the love from his fans, as well as his native country, Novak forever...

Hey gordana, I've a question. This year at the Australian Open in Melbourne, while Nole was playing one of his matches (I think the final), the commentator made a remark that out of the 3 boys, Nole's youngest brother has best game amongst them. Presumably he was speaking relatively. I was very intrigued by this comment. Do you know much about Nole's 2 younger brothers, and what are their names and age? I know his 2nd brother played in the junior tournament but have you ever watched his 2 younger brother play tennis? It would be great to see them join Nole at the pro leven when they come of age.

After Nole won the AO title, a lot of photos were taken of him with his trophy around Melbourne and many times with his 2 younger brothers. They seem very close. It was really nice to watch them together.

gordana,
you are exposing yourself too much with your explicit comments, they will hate you :)

anyhow, I noticed the same as 3cpo, report didn't come out before Sunday 11pm PT. I guess they needed some time to absorb the schock that arised as a consequence of (their biggest darling) A. Murray not playing in the finals. I look at that (and in general) from a broader context, perhaps a political/cultural one. As a satisfaction to all Novak fans (late) report was quite positive for him.

Most of the time predictions on Djokovic are inaccurate, partialy due to his erratic play lately, partialy due to his unpopular status at this web site. I agree, predictions are tough to make but they should be impartial and "filled" with more tennis expertise than authors' desires. Cheers.

posmatrac, I really enjoying exposing my thoughts not myself, don't worry about me, finaly, I don't care about some people over here at all, regards for you

gordana , 11/17/08 3:59 PM

3cpo and gordana... there IS an article about Novak's Masters Cup title... it's just that no one has commented on it yet.

Gameplay , 11/17/08 4:09 PM

sorry for the grammar error ... arouse instead of arised :)

posmatrac , 11/17/08 6:01 PM

gordana, do you know the answer to tenstars question? Have you seen the 2 younger brothers? What is their tennis like? I'm very curious.

Congrats to Serbia getting a tournament.

Novak's brothers are good, but still far from elite level, one brother is 17 (1991), other is 13 (1995) and the youngest one has best perspective by experts. More here http://www.novakdjokovic.rs/2b.php?Lang=EN&nav=sljk

3cpo , 11/17/08 11:16 PM

Nole's youngest brother is Djordje (George). The other one is Marko. Marko played in a first round of Bangkok I think. He got a wild card, no doubt because Novak pulled some strings. He lost 2:6, 0:6. Do a search on this site, there was an article.

Gordana,
I doubt Nole will play his own tournament. In a way, that's conflict of interest. He may be there to promote it. We'll see. In any case, I won't miss it ;).

danica , 11/17/08 11:40 PM

Hello everyone, sorry I couldn't answer earlier but 3cpo & danica answered your questions, both brothers are so sweet, talented but youngest one Djordje has already very good prognoses by experts, as far as I'm concerned, I do wish both of them good tennis future but Novak is unique and my dearest, time will show what will happen.
Danica
Regards for you, you shouldn't have any doubt cause Nole will play in Belgrade so all the tennis fans will have an opportunity to see our champion, but it will be pretty difficult to get tickets, I already have a promise I'll get two tickets for me & my aunt, cause she's crazy about Nole, anyway, it'll be event of year...

Good to see you are back here. Do you remember when you and I were both being accused of using proxy names? As a result I got banned for a while but was eventually reinstated. Did the same happen to you?

ed251137 , 11/18/08 10:38 AM

Hey ed, no I didn't. When people scream at me I walk away, which is the exact opposite of trolling. Chances are I'm in a different country than whoever was causing the problem, so they eventually realized I had nothing to do with it.
