While he is looking forward to the next phase of his life after a standout career in singles and doubles, Jonas Björkman is particularly pleased to be able to still keep his hand in his sport.
"I'm going to take advantage that I've been playing so long that I can go straight into seniors," he said. "That puts a lot of pressure on the guys."
Björkman retired after lifting all four Grand Slam doubles titles and 15 Masters titles among 54 career doubles trophies. He also stood fourth in the world in singles a decade ago.
The Monte Carlo-based Björkman twice won Davis Cup titles with Sweden in 1997 and 1998, calling them highlight moments. "Winning the Davis Cup was something that was huge to be part of, I was very proud to be representing my country.
"I still think it's great to end my career in the biggest event of the year, even if I would have liked to have gone further. I've been mentally prepared for this because I'm mentally very ready to retire. I've been very fortunate to be able to play for so long."
