Moscow - Marat Safin gets confused in strange end to match Marat Safin lost track of the match score in an embarrassing post-match gaffe.

The No. 7 seed Marat Safin, playing in front of his hometown crowd in Moscow, had a difficult time dispatching the 521st-ranked Noam Okun from Israel. The Russian barely took the first set, forced to a tiebreaker which he finally won 7-5.

After the struggle of the first set, Safin completely lost the plot in the second set. The Russian man had four break point chances in the set, but converted none of them. Okun had just two break-point opportunities, but he managed to take advantage of one of them, giving him the set.

The third set was played slightly better by Safin. The two men held serve throughout the set, until 5-4 on Okun’s serve. With the Israeli man attempting to stay in the match, Safin finally broke to take the match, but that’s where things got weird. Instead of approaching the net and shaking hands with Okun, Safin walked over to his chair, intending to change ends. Chair umpire Carlos Bernardes had to inform him that the match was indeed complete. A sheepish Safin went back on court to shake hands and share some amusement with Okun.
