Roger Federer announced today that he will not show up at next week's Stockholm Open, which starts on Monday.
Federer had been the big name in this year's Stockholm Open, but on Wednesday the Swiss announced that he needs rest in order to be 100 percent fit for the rest of the season. "2008 has been a tough year for me as I was always playing catch up after being diagnosed with mononucleosis at the beginning of the year," said Federer in a statement.
"I feel fortunate to be healthy again, but I want to remain at the top of the game for many more years to come and go after the #1 ranking again. In order to do that, I need to get a proper rest and get strong again so that I am 100% fit for the remainder of the year or next year."
David Nalbandian will now be the top seed at the Stockholm Open. Other players include Tommy Haas, Mario Ancic and earlier this week Kei Nishikori received a wild card.

Fortunately, he'll be in a good shape, cause he'll lose the first upcoming match with Novak, I'm hardly waiting that moment, regarding his statement, he's gonna remain at the top of the game for many more years, I'm sorry, mission impossible, Rafa has great year and 7000 points, but more interesting, Novak is after him and very, very close, it's a matter of days, when he'll replace him, at the end, I have to mentioned, Federer was the best, not anymore, he has to realize that, anyway, his time gone with wind.

Did you know that... Andy Roddick holds the record for fastest serve, 154.7 mph.
