  • Donald Young and Wayne Odesnik see first round action

     - A handful of Americans take the court in Tokyo as round one continues at the AIG Japan Open.

    Wayne Odesnik vs. Kevin Kim

American Kevin Kim is still looking for his first ATP match win in 2008. He has gone 0 for 2 so far, and has spent the rest of the time on the Challenger circuit. He has two tournament wins there and on final, but he does not fare as well against the main tour. Wayne Odesnik has done slightly better with thirteen wins (and fourteen losses). The two men have played twice, the most recent occurring earlier this year. Kim has won both meetings.

    Donald Young vs. Martin Slanar

The young American Donald Young is looking for his first win since a first round victory over Luis Horna in Washington back in early August. He has lost in the first round of the US Open and Bangkok since then. Ranked 133 in the world, Young has not assumed the mantle of American tennis as many had expected him to. His opponent is the little known Austrian qualifier Martin Slanar. Slanar is ranked 232 in the world. Young should be able to slide past with relative ease.
