Fernando Gonzalez, Richard Gasquet and Tommy Robredo all crash out in China.
After David Ferrer was knocked out in his opening match, 3 more seeds have fallen.
Half-retired Rainer Schuettler took out Richard Gasquet in 3 sets. Richie won the first set solidly, but fell apart after that. His forehand was just terrible today. Sure, the Frenchman hit some nice flashy shots here and there, but it was not nearly enough to beat Schuettler. The German veteran was rock solid, not allowing Gasquet to do anything. Richard had a mini-comeback late in the third, but it was far too little, far too late.
Bjorn Phau took out Fernando Gonzalez in 3 sets as well. Phau played a very nice match, showing some great power and speed around the court. He was looking to take control of every single point against the Chilean. The German's defense was superb as well. Anytime Gonzalez tried to hit a giant forehand and end the point, Phau was able to withstand it and send it back. Phau now reaches his 3rd career ATP semifinal.
Dudi Sela also pulled off an upset as he took out Tommy Robredo in two quick and easy sets, 6-4, 6-1. Robredo started off with an early break in the first but after that fell apart. Sela played well, demolishing Robredo's second serve. Robredo was 8/37 on second serve points. Sela took out Ferrer earlier in the week and appears to be on a roll here.
