  • An action packed Thursday awaits Beijing

     - After the first few days of relative peace and quiet, all the big boys are coming out on Thursday in Beijing. David Ferrer, Fernando Gonzalez, and Richard Gasquet to name a few.

David Ferrer will take on Israeli Dudi Sela to start off the day. Ferrer is coming from Madrid to Beijing in only a few days, but since its only Thursday that he's playing his first round match, fatigue shouldn't be too much of a concern.

Both men stand at 175 cm, but that is where the similarities end. Ferrer should have no trouble at all with Sela, unless the Spaniard is completely off his game. Sela doesn't have the weapons to beat Ferrer and David should wear Sela out.

Fernando Gonzalez comes into this event after winning the silver in Athens, the 4th round at the US Open, and two straight set wins in Davis Cup. Needless to say, he's in good form.

His opponent, Japan's Go Soeda is mainly a challenger tour player. A good one at that, seeing as he has won 3 challenger events this season. Soeda is solid and might put up a bit of a challenge to Gonzalez, but the Chilean is far too good at the moment to be beaten by the likes of Soeda.

After Gonzalez, Richard Gasquet will take the court to do battle with Yen-Hsun Lu. The same Lu that knocked Murray out of the Olympics could very well pull off another upset here. Richie has had an up and down summer, but reached the semis of Bucharest last week. Lu has had the best year of his career so far in 2008 and plays his best when he plays the big boys. Gasquet will still win, but Lu has an outside shot.
